    Summary

Butterflies, Chan thinks, are perhaps the loveliest thing ever to grace the world; the delicacy of their wings, the colours of their markings, the gentle fronds of their antenna. So it's no surprise, perhaps, that he decides to devote his life to studying them. His work is not famous, nor is it well-funded; so when his humble endeavours are noticed by a famed professor who invites Chan to come and view his personal collection of pinned butterflies and moths, it feels like a dream come true.

But the manor house out in the country holds more than just specimens for him to observe and set down on paper. The professor's son, quiet and half-wild, haunts the corridors and gardens like a moth fluttering in the night, and Chan can't help but find him fascinating - despite the twists and turns of Seungmin's mind that even he seems to struggle to navigate.

Fascination, though, tends to grow and shift as it blooms, and Chan finds himself caught up in Seungmin's every depth and shadow before he thinks to stop it. And little by little, surrounded by glass cases and fragile wings, Chan begins to realise that caged things often deserve to be set free - whether they have wings to fly or not.

    Summary

In his time living down by the water, Changbin has seen the sea wash up a great many things; driftwood, an old boat, hoards of by-the-wind-sailors turning the sand blue. But the last thing he expects to see lying on the shore is a person. A young man who will barely speak, with eyes like salt and sea-ice.

He has secrets, Changbin can tell. Things he doesn't want to speak of. Changbin thinks he can cope with that. But as they become clearer, Changbin begins to realise that maybe they're not what he expected; that maybe, there's more to Felix than he first thought.

And Changbin isn't the only one who knows what Felix is- or the only one who wants him.

“ Like the tides, Felix will come and go. But Changbin knows the tides, has sailed them for years; he understands the depths of them, the simple truth of the moon and the water.

He understands that what is lost will return, if only he waits for long enough.

    And Felix always does.”

    Summary

When Jeongin first arrives at his new boarding school, he knows he's about to start a life of new experiences- but what greets him there is beyond his imagination. Met by a group of bright, brilliant individuals who welcome him with open arms, Jeongin begins to see that there is far more to life than what he knew.

Things escalate when he realises that between sips of wine, the strokes of a paint brush, and the pull of a bow against violin strings, he has fallen in love for the first time. It's scary and exciting, and as he slowly begins to learn who he is through the words of Shelley and Sappho, will Jeongin be able to teach the boy with poetry in his heart that love doesn't have to be tragic, to be true?

    Summary

When Chan is seventeen, he loses his best friend. He and Jeongin have fought a war together, both of them too young to ever see the things they'd seen; but it ends, as all wars do, and Jeongin is gone before Chan can find him to say goodbye. Returning home to a family he hasn't seen in five years, Chan grieves for the bright, shining friend he has to learn to live without.

    He never quite recovers.

But the past has a way of coming back to us unexpectedly, and eight years after the end of the war, Chan meets a trio of young foster parents tasked with taking care of the children left shaken and afraid of their own abilities by the conflict. And one of them seems impossibly familiar.

As he and Jeongin try to get to know each other again after eight long years, Chan feels pieces of himself mending that he'd long since given up on. Pieces of his heart slotting into place around Jeongin's smile, and the shape of his eyes, in a way that's different to how it was back when they were children. Still caught up in the blur of nostalgia and nightmares, Chan isn't sure what any of it points to; but he knows that Jeongin's here, beside him again, and that can only mean that everything will turn out right in the end.

    Summary

When he's twenty-three years old, Chan is cursed. It takes from him only one thing; not his looks, or his friends, or the small fortune he's made as a concert pianist. It takes only his music, and it's enough to make him think he'll never be the same.

At twenty-six, he's still trying to break it. Given everything he's lost, the shining pieces of himself he's been forced to leave behind, the terms seem impossible; in order to bring back his ability to play, Chan must find someone who will fall in love with him without it. If he's honest with himself, he's long since given up hope.

But the arrival of someone new into his life changes everything; Felix understands music in a way Chan has never considered, moving to it with a grace and passion he can't comprehend. Finding fragments of the version of himself he lost in their dance lessons, Chan feels more at home than he has in years. But love is more difficult than that, he thinks. It has to be.

    Doesn't it?
