    Summary

(...) -“Goodnight, Usami,” he said softly, and the boy hung up. He let the phone down on the table, turning up the volume on the television again. But it wasn’t the same as before. It couldn’t quite mask the silence and his loneliness as well as it previously did. He craved more, he wanted someone to be by his side at moments like these and keep him company. He was sure that if Usami had been there, they would have been able to talk until their tongues fell off, well into the night. It was a little surprising, to have himself wishing for human contact when he tried to keep those desires at bay, and pretend he didn’t need it. Sure, he often felt lonely, but he never actively thought of a way or a specific person to fix it.

He wouldn’t have admitted it to anyone, but he wanted Usami to be there. Him, more than anyone. Just talking about whatever came to mind, smiling like he always did, giving him a reason to smile back. (...) -

Modern AU. Follow Kadokura as he struggles to not let his own loneliness consume him, not let his past define him, and as he hopelessly watches himself inevitably fall in love with that young, cute cashier that works at the same supermarket he works at.

    Summary

He'd only wanted to be able to live on his own terms; the fulfillment he sought was something he should find on his own, too.
    He didn't need anybody else.
He didn't want to rely on anybody else to feel at ease.
Then, what? What was he supposed to have been done?
Maybe he should have indulged Ogata with all the fucking explanations he'd wanted to hear. Maybe he should have told him where he was so he could go meet him and put his jealous feelings to rest.
"Ogata," Sugimoto suddenly said, "maybe I shouldn't have asked you to marry me."

    Or:
Five days is too short of a period of time, but they have already found out how deep that river can be.

    Summary

He’s never heard a death wish so keen, almost gentle, filled with looming irrationalities uncharacteristic to Ogata. He then remembers how the sniper’s blood sticks on his fist, and at that very moment, it comes at him, as though the sting of the iron was still clinging onto his nostril.

    Summary

When Ogata was a child, he'd always keep an eye on the sky, watching for storm-grey clouds overhead.
He liked the rain, liked the after-dew, and even though it scared away the game, he liked the thunderstorms, too.

(Sugimoto and Ogata play a game of cat-and-mouse, only here, there are no winners or losers.)
