    Summary

Twenty years ago, the Warlord of the North came down out of the mountains and slew the king of Kaedwen, taking crown and kingdom for his own. Everyone expected him to be overthrown almost immediately, but he has only grown ever more secure in his position. Finally, the other countries around Kaedwen have begun to negotiate with him as they would any other king.

To seal the new treaty between Redania and the Warlord, Lady Milena de Roggeven, third daughter of the Duke of Roggeven, has been sent to marry whichever of the Warlord’s men he chooses.

Milena is starkly terrified of everything about her new husband; every rumor she has ever heard about the barbarians of the north seems worse than the last, and Lambert clearly despises the very thought of marriage.

Lambert of the Wolves is still grieving his lost lover, dead more than three years now. The last thing he wants is to be married off to a terrified stranger, and he can’t imagine why Geralt and Eskel think he of all people is suited to a diplomatic marriage.

And neither of them suspects the treachery that lies behind the treaty which binds them together.

    Summary

Jaskier and Geralt’s bonding had been an arranged marriage. Their love born from a necessary union between the Witchers of Kaedwen with the small but conveniently located Kerack. Geralt had never expected to find love in the union. But then, he had never expected Jaskier.

    Summary

    “How old are you, anyway?”

Yellow eyes flicked wryly up to him. “Old enough to be more than your father, pup. C’mon, start putting your shit away.” The witcher stood, gathering their first pile of things— for the desk and its drawers— and neatly depositing them.

“That’s not a number.” The bard smiled sweetly, eyes narrow, in the way Geralt said made him look like a little butcherbird: darling but violent-minded. “Don’t get shy now; you don’t look a day over seventy, dear-heart.”

Geralt reached over and tugged his earlobe for the impertinence. “Cheeky, but close.”

Jaskier laughed. Everything but his husband’s white hair looked to be late-thirties, perhaps forty; an excruciatingly fit, well-kept forty, but the shallow lines in his face and the fullness of his physique gave him away somewhat.

“Fifty? Fifty-five? I’m not going to catch a case of the vapors, Geralt.” Jaskier made a point to keep his expression playful, despite the flush of embarrassment that crawled up his neck to color his face. He liked it, and Geralt knew that he liked it, so there was no shame in discussing it. Particularly when it kept the conversation away from why he liked it.

    Summary

Vesemir was a sounding board for Rennes, someone to think through the difficult decisions with him. Rennes might be the head of the School of the Wolf, but Vesemir was his partner in every aspect, help when he needed it.

Now Vesemir was alone, had been for so long, you'd think he was used to it by now. But every year, when he took out those delicate silver objects made with Rennes' loving hand, he felt the tears catch at the back of his throat.

    Summary

By the time they got to the base of the mountain, Vesemir expected Jaskier to finally leave. He had his fun following and bothering a Witcher for a few days, surely he got what he wanted from that? But no, Jaskier continued after him.

Jaskier was still there when they got to the gates of Kaer Morhen. But now, he stopped, biting his lip, eyes hesitant. “Finally having second thoughts?” Truth be told, Vesemir had gotten used to his presence. The soft human heart gently working away next to him was soothing at night, and the smell of arousal coming off Jaskier hadn't faded, the thick cloud of lust enveloping Vesemir's every waking moment. It was nice to be desired again, especially by someone so fine.
