Summary
Sometimes there are things you need to do, challenges you must overcome, that you could never expect to face. When you must fight to keep your head above the waves, tugged along by the currents of your life... Or of someone else's life. Like, say, a fictional character destined to a painful demise. A life you once looked at with awe and appreciation, imagined yourself in - but never truly wanted to live through.
Guess who's luck just ran out? Mine, and I've got no idea how I'm going to make it through this. Desmond managed it, and I'm going to follow in his footsteps as best I can, but... I'm not him. I don't think I can do this, but I'll do my best to live up to him for as long as I possibly can. At least I'll be able to rely on 'my' ancestor's experiences for help, and it almost feels like I'm being guided in the present day as well. That's just this body's memories combining with what I remember though, right? Not important - right now, I need to focus on not irreversibly messing up.
...Not going to lie though, at least part of this is pretty incredible.

Wei Wuxian is staring up at the sky, thinking idly about the taste of Emperor’s Smile on his tongue, when Suibian jumps full force onto his stomach and cries, “A-Xian, don’t be mad!”
The sheer force of her pounce knocks the breath out of him. The resulting pause is just long enough for Jiang Cheng, who up to this point has been laying rather peacefully next to him, to shoot up and demand, “Oh great, what did you do now?”
To be fair, the question isn’t exactly unwarranted. Suibian looks an absolute mess: twigs stuck in her fur, dirt smeared across the white fluff of her underbelly. She’s panting up a storm, little heh heh heh gasps that haven’t edged into her normal high-pitched laughter. When her ears press back against her head, she could almost pass for pitiful.
“Bichen hates me.”
Wei Wuxian’s first thought is Why would Lan Zhan’s daemon hate you?, but it’s followed quickly by remembering exactly where he is, how little trouble he’s caused today, and the fact that he hasn’t seen Suibian for a few minutes.
A grin spreads across his face.
(Or: The most important name a cultivator will ever pick isn’t for their sword. It’s for their daemon.)

“Yes?” He responded, looking up at Madam Yu, willing his brain to process the words. “Say that again?”
“Why are you in the kitchen so late?”
“Oh.” He blinked, trying to form an answer. Why was he in the kitchen? “I think I may be mildly disassociating. Nothing new. I made tea.”
In which Wei Wuxian disassociates, Jiang Cheng has a heart (no matter how much he tries to hide it), and things get better.
