Summary
This takes off from Chapter 8 of LongLoveVegeta’s comic, First Kiss, a fan made manga about the lingering attraction between Vegeta and Bulma during the three year gap.
Closer starts with Vegeta returning to Earth after training in space for six months. We assume he’s made the transformation into Super Saiyan, but cannot do so at will yet. Meanwhile Bulma and Dr. Brief have made advances with their R&D too. How will this affect the strength of their connection? As Vegeta and Bulma become increasing conscious of their mortality, how does the prospect of death by the androids influence their actions?

Deep Down is a story of mutual fascination and love. It attempts to document the romance and development between Bulma and Vegeta after the Cell Games and the beginning of the seven year gap. Through their story it shows us how difficult it is to change who we are. And with heartbreaking tenderness, reveals how we learn about the desire to hurt and be hurt, to love and be loved.

Summary
It was choice that originally took him to Earth, a choice to defy orders and take control of his own life. But for every decision we make there is a splinter universe in which we didn't, in which we took the other road. This is a story about one of the other roads.
Radditz doesn't go to Earth. Bulma doesn't go to Namek. Goku never died when he was meant to and the Earth never has a chance to prepare for Freeza's forces by the time they finally absorb it. Bulma is abducted and forced to reproduce Capsule Tech. Vegeta is the last of his race struggling to endure a life of subjugation under his tormentor. There are rebel forces, intergalactic space battles and the retelling of one of anime and manga's favourite love stories.
We are defined by the choices we make. That sentiment, though not original, provides both the title and premise for this alternate universe work about one of the most intriguing pairings in, well, the universe.
