    Summary

They call him the Leviathan but somehow nobody ever stopped to consider why that was. In retrospect, thinking about that before going out to hunt whales may have been a good idea. It's an oversight that Corvo survives just barely and one that will prove to have irrevocable consequences on his life.

    Summary

The Outsider doesn't know why he's here. He can feel the Void calling to him, but he is intrigued by the way in which Corvo's pain resonates with him when it shouldn't affect him in any way. He's seen many empires fall and many lives shattered in the name of many causes. He's seen unimaginable destruction and horror, and too much death, but he's barely ever found himself feeling involved in any of it. The closest he got to feeling anything more than mild interest was when he marked the rat boy, and even then he'd only felt mild disappointment in the end, a hint of remorse at the loss of so many other futures. He supposes that his mistake of getting involved in saving Corvo when he was a boy is behind all this, but he feels like he couldn't have avoided that. In all the glimpses of Corvo's futures he's been able to see, he's always intrinsically entwined with the Outsider in a way the god cannot begin to explain.

Or: the Outsider's 'fascination' with Corvo starts earlier than Corvo might have thought, and allows Delilah to get away with a lot. Featuring: lots of long sentences, very little dialogue, and lots of Corvo thinking. Also lots of canon divergence in terms of plot and characters.

    Summary

“I think therefore I am. / The more we say it the more it sounds like / I think therefore I will be.”
—Neil Hilborn, “This is Not the End of the World”

Into a world of corporate espionage and out-of-control technological advancement steps Corvo Attano. Having escaped from prison and on the run from accusations of the murder of his lover and employer Jessamine Kaldwin, he seeks to find his missing daughter Emily. Opposed by the ruling singularity OVERSEER, surrounded by untrustworthy allies, and alone against the face of overwhelming force, Corvo has only one ally. The Outsider, the ghost in the machine, offers him powers beyond human imagining. Corvo doesn't know what the price is, nor does he care.

He has exactly one goal: destroy the men who killed Jessamine and took Emily.

And if that means allowing the world to burn...he's happy to do it.

    Summary

"Perhaps you'll find another soul to torture,” Corvo teases, “Another tired middle-aged father who is so desperate for your fickle attention."

“There is no one else,” the Outsider replies suddenly, voice fierce. His brow pinches just barely. “There is no other soul like yours. When you’re gone, I’ll wait to find you again, when your soul is reincarnated in a thousand or so years.”

Corvo’s heart is thudding in his ears and the Mark burns hot on his skin, under his wrappings, like it's about to burst into flames.

And then, as though caught being too sentimental, the Outsider’s hands drop slowly from Corvo’s face. He looks away, voice quiet when he says, “Don't die, beloved. It would be so troublesome for me.”

Corvo Attano and the Outsider, in a dance not yet occurred, and so very, very human. Or, the transformation of a lifeless god to a god in human flesh and blood with a living, beating heart.
