Wei Wuxian disappears without a trace, and then ten years later, shows up on the news during a cave-in...They proceed to play a somewhat staticky audio recording of the teacher in question. “—if it’d just been me in here I’d vote for the underwater tunnel option, but I’ve got kids in here who can’t swim. We have plenty of snacks and water to last us for a while, so please just focus on getting the rocks cleared away, okay? Safely, of course. Oh, and remind the ones out there that I still expect them to do their homework for tomorrow!” He laughs, bright and clear even through the crackle of the bad reception.
Lan Wangji drops the knife.
It clatters loudly on the cutting board, just barely missing his fingers. He hardly even notices. He’s too focused on that voice he knows so well, on the laugh that he still hears sometimes in his dreams even after all these years.
He exhales shakily. “Wei Ying…”

Summary
For Lan Wangji, loving or being loved inevitably leads to grieving. He's seen it happen countless times.
When he's hit by a car and put into an induced coma for a few days, his mind wanders, and he gets the opportunity to revisit different periods of his life, and starts to reconsider his view on things.
In his coma, he hears the voice of the boy he once loved but thought he'd lost - though that might have been just a dream. Or was it?
Wei Wuxian volunteers at the hospital to reduce anxiety in child patients. One day, he meets a boy who's crying for his father. His day gets even weirder when Wei Wuxian meets the boy's uncle, who asks him for a special favour.

“It’s okay that you miss him,” said Lan Wangji, a familiar litany to them both by now. “Do you feel sad?”
“I feel sad,” A-Yuan repeated, shoulders hitching with tiny hiccuping sniffs. “When is he coming back?”
“I don’t know. I am not sure where he is.”
But this seemed to frustrate A-Yuan. “Xian-gege! I miss him! Please, baba?” He looked up at him with wet cheeks and a wide, quivering frown. “Please baba can you ask him? I really miss him!” He sobbed again, heartbreakingly.
It stabbed straight through him, cracking open the reservoir of loss and helplessness that was all his own. His child’s grief did that, sometimes. It always took him by surprise. He caught his breath sharply and gathered A-Yuan into his arms, holding him tight until the pain ebbed.
“I will try,” he said softly into A-Yuan’s hair, when he could speak again. He never made uncertain promises and tried not even to raise uncertain hopes, but his son was hurting. His son believed he could make it better. He couldn’t not try.
Wen Qing might at least know who this “Xian-gege” was. He would text her in the morning. It would be a start.

Nice, soft, well written story. A lot of love and home. Wei Ying is having issuesTM, but they are being solved with just more love and care (it's not too harsh, tho). I love this Lan Zhan as well and A-Yuan is just too cute! <3

Wei Ying is crashing and burning. Five rocky years as one of the most infamous musicians in the country has left him in a spiral of scandal and substance abuse, culminating in an arrest for a drunken fight he barely remembers.There were a lot of things Wei Ying couldn’t explain in his life. He couldn’t tell someone what his mother had looked like when she smiled, or how his father had sounded when he laughed. He couldn’t say what it would feel like to live in a home that felt like his own, where he never felt the need to prove it hadn’t been a bad idea to adopt a child that dozens of foster families had spat back into the system. He couldn’t explain why he’d become an alcoholic. He hadn’t been one, and then suddenly one day he was. He wasn’t even sure where the line had been drawn in the sand, or when he’d crossed it.
Fresh out of his stint in rehab, Wei Ying tries to piece himself back together with the help of his stern younger brother and a local librarian who really puts up with too much.
