Summary
Once he steps through the door into the humid summer air, he tries Nicholas’ phone number one last time. It rings twice, three times, and then goes through. “Euijoo-yah,” sighs Nicholas across the line as soon as he picks up. “I’m so sorry. Something came up.”
His voice sounds off. Euijoo plays with his bottom lip. “Are you okay, my dearest?” he says, his heart aching quietly.
or: Theirs is a love story, a story about love.

Summary
My name is Byun Euijoo, everyone usually calls me Juju, it’s a nickname Nicholas gave me—
He feels his chest tightening again and he pushes his chair back. When the space is enough for him to stand up, he stands, stretching his arms over his head and trying to understand why a nickname that Nicholas made for him should be included in a speech at his wedding.
Euijoo tears the page out, crumples it in his fist and throws it inside the bin. It joins the rest of its friends—mostly empty papers with good evening everyone in Mandarin written on it—inside the metal bin beside his desk, a growing graveyard of half-truths and incriminating sentences. Phrases that should never be spoken out loud.-
nicholas is getting married, he wants euijoo to give a speech.

“You can see me?”
—to be seen.
“Of course. Why wouldn’t I?”
They meet as a sailor and a lighthouse keeper. The sea always promises more.
