Summary
Keith is beat to hell.
He’s covered in soot, scrapes, and bruises. An angry red scar covers most of his cheek, and there's dried blood in his hair and on his forehead. A whimper leaves Shiro’s mouth and Keith’s face morphs to worry, though he doesn't move from where he’s braced against the seat.
“Shiro-” Keith starts, but Shiro interrupts him.
“Who did this to you?”
It’s the only thought his mind can produce, and Keith drops his gaze to the floor. There’s a few beats of silence as Keith opens his mouth, then closes it, looking down at his bruised hands.
“Haggar.”
(After coming back from the dead, Shiro's mind is disturbingly blank. He's lonely and pining hard for Keith, but Keith is keeping secrets)

“It isn’t about us, remember?” Keith’s below him on the ramp, looking up, and Shiro slides his hand around the back of his neck. “Besides, I don’t think anyone’s here for that.”
“I know.” Keith leans into his touch and sighs. “I signed a cadet’s notebook with a smiley face yesterday.”

They think it will be funny to leave him with a Galra in heat.
It whimpers. It's a sound of pure pain, one Shiro's heard a hundred times now in the arena. The sound of something wounded and helpless; the sound of something that knows it.
"Are you hurt?" Shiro asks in the bare silence of the cell, and moves a few steps closer.
The creature on the floor twitches violently at his voice. It's not dressed like the other prisoners. It's hard to tell in the poor lighting but the back of its skin-tight suit is glowing in circuits, the same purple he's come to associate with the Galra. "I won't hurt you," he says, softer.
It doesn't make a sound but its back arches, head lifting from the floor, dragging black hair along the floor. It's dripping wet with blood or sweat. Shiro realizes the small sound he's barely been registering is breath—it's panting. It rolls, just enough to eye Shiro through its dark bangs.
He. It's a boy, and he's beautiful.

They call themselves Runners. They exist on the edge between the gloss and the reality: the mirror'sedge. Runners see the city in a different way. They see the flow. Rooftops become pathways and conduits, possibilities and routes of escape. The flow is what keeps them running, keeps them alive.
Keith is in love with Shiro, leader of the Runners. Maybe it's about time he does something about that.
