...technically an AU of "These Gifts That You Have Given Me", but taken entirely to my heart as the actual ending. Also, possibly the best portrayal of the Valar, in their strength and strangeness, that I have ever read.

    Bookmarker's Notes

This was recommended to me when I was looking for stories about redemption, and once I’d wiki-ed enough of the Silmarillion (which I bounced off of rather hard at the age of 10 and never quite managed to revisit) to follow it... it was perfect.

    Summary

A series of stories about Elrond's return to Aman at the end of the Third Age. All these assume that Maglor son of Fëanor was one of the other unnamed Elves who accompanied Elrond, Galadriel, Gandalf, Frodo and Bilbo on the ship when they left Middle-earth. Point of view is usually either Maglor or Elrond, but occasionally someone else (Celebrian, Lalwen, Nerdanel...)

The first story, And the wind as sweet as honey in the mouth, is about Maglor and Elrond meeting again in the Second Age, rather than in Aman, but fits with the overall series otherwise.

This series is connected with the Mandos series, about the experiences of Feanor, Fingolfin, Fingon, Curufin and Celegorm in the Halls of Mandos, but it can stand alone.

This was also recommended to me when I was looking for stories about redemption. It’s complicated and intense and beautiful, and swells slowly from a very gentle beginning to an epic conclusion. Highly recommended.
