"Loren had long known that he wasn't normal – not by the standards of his own society and perhaps not even by the standards of humanity. He didn't let it bother him."
Danger has more than one edge.
Having long ago abandoned hope of finding any man who would acknowledge Loren's mastery, Loren has contented himself with ambitions that are smaller, though no less challenging: Running a gay leather bar in a town with a vigilant vice squad. Educating the heterosexuals in town on how to maintain their own secret practices. And enduring everyone's assumptions about him.
But now a new man has arrived on the scene, one who is tempting Loren to the edge, where he loves to play. Dare he allow himself to enter into danger?
The answer may lie, not only with the participants of the negotiation, but with the bond between brother and sister.

"He never learned more than his master's first name, and he suspected afterwards that the name had been a lie. He didn't need a name. From the start, he addressed the man as 'sir,' understanding, with some inborn instinct, what the man's leather jacket meant."
Twenty years have been building up to this moment.
Memories of all that he has built in this small Midwestern town haunt Loren as he prepares to lead his brotherhood in another night of dungeon play.
At least, that is how Loren sees it. To the other leathermen in Mayhill, Loren is an effeminate bottom who tries to pretend he's a top. Only Loren's partner knows otherwise, but Elia is wrapped up in his own problems on this night. So it is left to Loren to figure out what to do when the community's latest member turns out to be a keg of gunpowder, ready to explode.
Meanwhile, Zephyra's troubles grow when her brother goes missing. . . .
"It was a final, token gesture to the civilized scholar who spent his odd moments struggling over the fragmented passages in Petronius, trying to fill in the blanks. That part of him, he knew from experience, would begin to disappear the minute he walked through the door. . . . Could he be trusted to walk through the door?"
You cannot hide what you are forever.
As Zephyra searches for her brother, worried that her greatest fears have finally come true, a leatherman reaches a turning point in his life.
Ken had been a mystery from the moment that he showed up at the Mayhill Black and Blue Club, wearing a policeman's uniform. Now Loren, unofficial head of the Mayhill's gay leather community, must use all of his hitherto unused powers to determine what lies at the heart of this mystery.
When he finds the answer, he will be faced with a choice that he was offered long ago, but which he has never before had the opportunity to explore.
