A summer job at his uncle's "Immersive Living History Experience" was the break Ben Solo needed. He didn't expect Rey, his roommate. She's younger, beautiful, and a recent fan of country music from every decade... And she likes to sing along.

It doesn’t mean much coming from Jiang Cheng, Wei Ying thinks. He’s pretty sure Jiang Cheng has to be coaxed out of his hanfu by the laundry wranglers. He doesn’t even think he’s seen Jiang Cheng suffer a pair of jeans in three weeks. He thinks Jiang Cheng takes home the underclothes and sleeps in them, cuddling the knockoff Zidian like a teddy bear.
Wei Ying lands a job as the Yiling Patriarch at the Lanling Cultivation Museum. Lan Zhan (Hanguang-Jun 4x per week, Sect Leader Lan 2x per week) suffers accordingly.

I wanted two things: A character for the Dickens Christmas Fair who could sing, and to explore the history of the Irish in London around 1850. This immersive approach to history blends research and what I can only describe as an intentional creation of an imaginary friend. It's also one of the geekiest ways to share history that I know.
Lucy Sullivan wanted a few things too. I put her in a dress I'd made for my tart character, because that was what I had. The first thing she asked me to do was let down the hem so her ankles were covered. She also wanted her real name back. By the end of that year, I had a living alter ego with a story that had a beginning, middle and end. For her it will always be that one year between 1847 and 1850 when she lost her job in service, her family, and emigrated to America.
