He pulls Zhongli onto his lap, back flushed against his chest. When he buries his tear-streaked face into the curve of Zhongli’s shoulder, he still smells like glaze lilies and incense. So incongruent with the acrid stench of the battlefield.
“...Ajax…”
Childe pulls back to see the last vestiges of gold swirl in the Archon’s exhausted eyes.
“Go with my blessings.”
When Liyue faces an inevitable catastrophe, Childe finds himself back in the past to retrieve the Gnosis that Zhongli has lost. Perhaps if he returns to the present with it, both Liyue and its Archon can be saved.

The only thing more difficult than completing a mission in a nation where he’s hated, is completing a mission in a nation where he’s being threatened with imminent deportation.
Out of alternatives and with failure not an option, the only way Childe can hope to remain in Liyue is by entering a relationship with one of its’ residents. He can think of only one person eccentric enough to go along with such a suggestion.
OR: The inherent awkwardness of undertaking a secret mission while falling in love with the guy you’re fake dating for your residency permit.

It’s been two months since the storm, and Childe hasn’t seen Zhongli not even once, not since that fateful meeting with the Signora where the truth is finally unveiled.
And what a fun little kick to the gut that is, the realization that not only had he been played by all sides, but he's also being tossed aside like trash now that his use had run its course.
It’s not that Childe doesn’t get it. He’s a Harbinger. He knows first-hand what it means to do his duty, to put the mission first and his personal feelings far, far away, preferably locked up in a box, where it wouldn’t interfere with his job. He knows what it’s like working with vipers, to scheme and plot and lie in wait for the opportune moment to stab his opponent in the back.
But this time, this time Childe can’t help but feel a little (a lot) gutted.

Now, in the privacy of the fantastical bathhouse, something had changed; even the phrases Zhongli spoke sounded much more believable, appealing in their kindness and drawing out all of Childe’s insecurities like bees to a flower.

Or: Childe dreams of the man he loves. The lucid dream allows him to follow through with some very tempting fantasies... as well as comprehend their very-real consequences.
An extra from the fic "What I Cannot Put into Words, I Offer You in the Weight of Gold." Takes place between Chapter 20 and 21 (20.5, if you will), before their fight in the Morepesok storage shed. Could POSSIBLY be read as a stand-alone? But makes much more sense with the background.

‘I thought I’d give you a proper send-off, rather than frying your brain. A death befitting for a warrior.’ Scaramouche chuckled. ‘My final gift to you. Aren’t I kind?’
Just as Childe opened his mouth to say something, a stinging sensation went through his hand. It was almost like something was attempting to burn through his glove, making his skin ache.
As his eyes found the cause of the sensation, his breathing practically stopped.
A Geo Sigil.
Zhongli had put a Geo Sigil on him.
With newfound strength he didn’t think he had in him, Childe reached for his hand, clamping down around the Sigil like a lifeline. He could feel the air blowing in his direction from where Scaramouche brought down the katana to try and stop him, though a pair of strong arms pulled him out of the way before it could so much as scratch him.
A tall figure was looming over him now, shooting death glares in Scaramouche’s direction with so much rage burning behind those eyes that Childe was surprised the other hadn’t turned to dust yet.
‘Zhongli.’
