It is early September in New York City, 1934 and United States Marine Corps Naval Officer and Ship/Auto Mechanic, James Zuko awaits departure from the U.S.S Lexington sailing towards New York Harbour after almost four years of hard work in naval missions and training exercises on icy waters in the Atlantic Ocean and warm tropical Caribbean Sea.
Having personally delivered his letter of resignation to his commanding General and secured approval, twenty four year old Irish-Croatian James is looking forward to relaxation, adventure and exploration of landmarks in New York City during his twelve week vacation as an approved American citizen with six years of legal residency.
Experienced in Automotive, Naval and Marine Engineering as an alumni graduate of University of Chicago, James intends to return home on New York Central Railroad's 20th Century Limited from Grand Central Station to La Salle Street Station in Chicago City, Northern Illinois in Midwestern America on Friday, November 30th.
In this small port city, an almost hysterical frenzy mingled with the powerful purring of what was, at the present time, the attraction of the moment. Press, passers-by, workmen, children, all hurried to see him as closely as was possible to imagine, while boarding was proceeding at a good pace.
Everything had to be perfect, irreproachable, impeccable. No matter how, the mention of her name should be synonymous of majesty, luxury, speed, strength ... Because this Thursday, April 10, 1912, the new star of the White Star Line was preparing to live hermaiden voyage, in transporting nearly 2500 passengers from the English coast to those of America, promise of a bright future for those who went there in search of a new life, when he left at twelve minutes.
This was just the promise of a trip everyone would hear about ... for days, months, years to come.
And while the inevitable destiny of this dream liner approaches hours in hours ... A strange trio takes its quarters and is about to live the adventure (or misadventure) of their long and immortal existence.
