    Summary

In which Morse finds in Lewis a home he didn’t know he needed, and then must discover how much he fears losing it.

Sergeant Robert Lewis and Chief Inspector Endeavour Morse are two very different sorts of people. Despite that, or perhaps because of it, their partnership is like a spark rising from the ashes. Morse trusts Lewis's instincts, and Lewis trusts Morse’s skill. The question is: can they learn to rely on each other's friendship as well?

    Summary

Morse, Robbie was rather sure, wasn’t one for Christmas. The Chief Inspector was what could only be called curmudgeonly on his good days; and Robbie would certainly not risk their young partnership by daring to bring any Christmas cheer into their office.
When they stopped in front of his house, he had an idea, however. After all – it was Christmas, and it was a somewhat sad thought that Morse would just return to an empty house when he could be with friends instead. “Sir, would you like to step in for a moment? It’s somewhat of a tradition with us…”
    Inspector Morse Christmas story.

    Summary

Robbie had heard of Morse, of course. The legend of the Oxford City Police, the one who solved the most difficult and complicated cases.
And then there were the… other things he had heard as well. Coppers like to gossip just as much as other people, and in this case, it had probably been inevitable that he knew all there was to know about a certain aspect of DCI Morse’s life within a few minutes of first stepping foot into the canteen.

    Summary

This is a combination of my love for “Endeavour” and “Moonlighting,” my two all-time favorite shows.

I had to change the title of this one. I forgot there already was an 'Endeavour' episode called 'Ride.'

A very young David Addison visits the Thames Valley Police, and learns a lot, on a “ride along with the police” mission.

APB stands for all-points bulletin. It is sent by police, to tell them to look for a suspect.

A termination is a U.K. word for an abortion.

I threw in a few “special guests,” starting in Act Four.

In Act Five, Scene One, there is a scene which takes place in a church. It features the Presence Lamp, which in the Anglican, Roman Catholic and Orthodox Churches, is a reminder of the belief in the ‘Real Presence’ - that of Christ in the Holy Eucharist.

Also in Act Five, Scene One, the scene borrows heavily from a novel by Katherine Kurtz. She’s an excellent writer. I highly recommend her Deryni books.

The story takes place in the early part of series six.

Story contains graphic depictions of violence, foul language, and sexual situations.

    Hope you enjoy.

    Summary

This one is different. Morse must undergo training to continue at the police department. He has strange visions of the future.

Once again, I have widged around with many events and people in the timeline. This story is, once again, outside the usual time arc. This is set just before series six. It’s named after two anachronistic songs.

“But today / all the lights went out in Heaven” - Marcy Playground, “All the Lights Went Out,” 1999

And, of course: “There is a light, and it never goes out” - from the song of the same name
    - The Smiths, 1986

Crackers are the American term for a rectangular or circular light baked bread snack.

The plot refers to a man who catches a precursor of AIDS, called Kaposi’s sarcoma. It involved nodes appearing on the patient’s body, which looked like fingertips. At the time, few treatments were available, and many patients just lingered and died. Now, there are various treatments for AIDS.

The Thames Valley Police have an Instragram: https://www.instagram.com/thamesvalleypolice/

The story contains foul language, graphic violence, and sexual situations. It also contains the death of a VERY major character.

    Thanks for reading.

    Summary

Set in Oxford and elsewhere. Early 1970. Terror strikes at a choir practice. Similar destruction follows. Morse and Lewis set to work. Political escalation leads to disaster. The police struggle to bring a stop to the horror.

This story is in line with my previous stories, and follows after “Fire.” The stories, in order, are as follows: “Shadow,” “Union,” “Eagle,” “River,” “Paradise,” “Fire,” and then this one. "Athena" and "Monument" are outside the sequence.

A precinct is a term for a police station.

I made up a name for Joan’s aunt. If I got it wrong, someone please let me know. I will post a corrected version of the story.

There was no TV show named ‘2000’ in 1970. I made it up. EMTs are ambulance workers.

I am not trying to encourage violence with this story, just depict it as a crime. Please note this page on IRA weaponry: https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/ira/inside/weapons.html

I have taken ‘artistic license’ with some aspects of the U.K. government. Please forgive me for any errors or excesses.

Story contains foul language, graphic violence, and sexual situations.

I hope you enjoy the story.

No matter what you subscribed to, there was one undeniable fact: Anything that was born would eventually die and they would only live on in hearts and minds.

Except, of course, for the times when things died… and stuck around.

Which was how Detective Sergeant Robert Lewis found himself bound to the ghost of his freshly deceased governor, the ever ornery DCI Morse.

    Summary

Set in Oxford, in the second half of 1969. A building burns to the ground. The circus rolls in. Endeavour’s relative pays a visit, for the first time in years. A baby boy needs a christening. Unwelcome gossip causes Joan to take drastic measures. Lewis and Valerie have a big day ahead. Also, there’s a cat. The Seventies are just around the corner.

‘Elkwood’ was not a real drama show on the air in 1969. I made it up.

Please note: story contains graphic violence, sexual situations, and foul language.

Thanks very much. I hope you enjoy the story.

    Summary

Set in Oxford, in early 1969, after the close of “Union.”

(Please note, I have no idea what the actual geography of Oxford is like. I was informed by a reader that the University of Oxford is not in one place only, but all over the city. Thank you. :) I've 're-imagined' the Tolkien papers being kept in a building at one of the colleges. Pardon any errors.)

A robbery sees the loss of some handwritten notebooks by a well-known graduate. Morse and Lewis follow the trail from the crime scene, to the Eagle and Child, where the Inklings used to meet, to neo-Nazi ultranationalist groups. Illness threatens the peace of the Thursday household. Endeavour and Joan have a rehearsal to go to. It’ll be a busy season at the Thames Valley PD.

Warning: some foul language, graphic depictions of violence, and graphic sexual situations.

Also, story contains the death of a major character.

I have again invented some names and locations.

    Summary

Set in late 1968 and early 1969, around the beginning of series six, and right after the close of “Shadow.” A new detective joins the Thames Valley PD. Someone in Joan’s life comes back for a visit – with sinister results. Endeavour and Joan are tested early.

I have invented a maiden name for the future Valerie Lewis. If anyone knows what her actual premarital surname was, please fill me in.

Also, I have no idea where the good hotels are in Oxford. As before, I have invented some names and locations.

Warning: some foul language, sexual situations, and graphic depictions of violence.

Thank you. I hope you enjoy the story.
