Tony has not always been Anthony Edward Stark.
A long time ago (And I mean a really fucking long time ago. Gods.)
He had been going by something a little bit different.
Or the greek fusion fic that no one asked for. Where Tony is Iron Man, Avenger of the Earth, and Hephaestus, god of fire and metalworking.
(Previous knowledge of Greek mythology not necessary to read this fic.)

For the woefully unprepared mortals, Hephaestus decided to step in as a mortal and advance its technologies and weapons; but it was not enough against the upcoming foe the Avengers have to face. He would need to cast aside his mortal form and reveal the existence of Greek and Roman Pantheons. Hephaestus may be kind, but he does not take kindly to anyone who messes with what is his, and Earth, no matter what Thor says, is under his protection.

"The damages he sustained from the fight caused some pieces of shrapnel pierced his lungs. Dr. Helen Cho had to refer to another doctor, who managed to successfully perform surgery on him, but his lungs are smaller now and he has a difficult time getting enough air in his lungs as a result.”
“He’s not completely healed?”
“It’ll be a miracle if he is.”
“How is it possible that you look like you’re ready to take on the world?”
Rhodey knew his best friend is hiding something from him - there was no way someone who was on the brink of death and was bedridden for days to be suddenly up and about as if nothing had happened.
