For the most part Richie and his sister have a doctrine of mutually assured destruction. They could obliterate each other with their parents given the slightest provocation. To keep things at an even keel, they steer clear of each other as much as possible every other day of the year, but on Thanksgiving? Kids Table is like their NATO.

“You really missed out, Eds,” Richie says, taking Eddie’s hand. He swings him out at arms length then reels him in again. When they’re back face to face he ducks in to whisper. “I totally woulda given it up if you’d taken me to prom. If you showed up at my front door with a shiny little bowtie and a hypoallergenic boutonniere, I would not have been able to get my white tuxedoed knees on the ground fast enough.”
“I can’t show up empty handed to your sister’s!” Eddie cries. “My pie will take hours to cool and we’re on a time crunch and I need to unpack!”
There are some social occasions at which an offering is mandatory, and declaring yourself the accomplice to a middle aged man’s sexuality crisis is one of them.
