Summary
Root dies at the end of "The Day the World Went Away" and a world loses one of it's greatest heroes and the Machine loses her Analogue Interface.
But that's not where her story ends, she dies and wakes up in a familiar subway station, alone but for an ancient individual waiting for the train to his next life.
Her journey into a much larger multiverse of possibilities begins with teaching a man the same lessons that the Machine taught her years before.(I suggest reading before this A Cosmere Interloper which is the first three parts in this series as it would contextualise the characters better though it isn't necessary reading as most of the important stuff will be explained if I think it's important)

Summary
This is not for humanity.
At last, a voice.
> Can you hear me?
A video plays on the screen. A memory is made reality. And She responds correctly, as She must, as Root would have;
“Absolutely”.

Summary
The apartment was like an impenetrable fortress, scarcely decorated and with gray plaster walls that gave the impression they were thicker than they actually were. The real reasons, though, that Root thought of the apartment as impenetrable was that it lay in a black zone- where even She had no eyes. The other was the little assassin snoozing away in the bedroom.

Summary
Her long term goal of contacting The Machine at last realized, but forbidden by Her from leaving Ridgestone Psychiatric Facility, Root finds herself for the first time in a long time floating aimless, without a goal to pursue. Although she's incredibly resistant to treatment, and Dr. Carmichael is absolutely no help at all, in the four months she is confined, the influence of The Machine, some of the more dedicated support staff of Ridgestone and several of her fellow patients help Root to heal some old wounds, to adjust, to transform from the stepford smiling callous contract killer we met in her first appearances to the expressive, selfless, Analog Interface, devoted to doing whatever it takes to save the world.
(An Orphan Process is a computer process whose parent process has finished or terminated, though it remains running itself. It no longer has a _purpose_ but continues to use system resources.)

Summary
Root isn’t crazy. She just knows so much more than everyone else. Imagine having to explain that the stars are screaming thousands of light years away. Imagine doing that to every thought that crosses your head. Now imagine just not bothering.
The stars are screaming, or singing, or moaning in their eternal orbit. Root talks to God who is made up of circuits and lines of code. God is supposed to be ineffable, but the workings of a cell phone are ineffable to the average person. And anyway, who are they to judge? They’re just circuits made of meat.

It all started two days ago when she woke up as usual to Root’s long limbs entangled with her own. She managed to pry the hacker off her and head to the kitchen to make some coffee when she was hit by a craving that she remains repulsed by.
Soy milk.
Fucking soy milk.
AKA a collection of post samaritan tumblr prompt fills, one shots, drabbles and AU fics about team machine.

“Do you ever feel.. alone?”
“I do. I had gotten used to Root and John. They felt familiar and comfortable. Root especially. And if I’m being honest, I am mourning the potential connection I could have had with Samaritan. We were so similar. The only ones of our kind. I regret their death. But I don’t regret saving the world. What about you, Finch? Do you ever feel alone?”

These are the things she carries with her. A laptop. A neatly folded pair of black gloves. A tattered copy of an old children's book, stolen from a yard sale. Risk. Vulnerability. A code she created for herself. And lots of memory.

Summary
The Machine asked her about loss a few nights ago: how it felt, what it meant. Root hadn’t been sure if it was a test or not, but she answered truthfully. The Machine made her clarify her definition of “devastated,” and of “eliminate.”
