The words filled Alex’s head and bounced around, knocking against him. He imagined the words scraping his brain, trying to give a cause to his headache. It was a crazy idea. It was so far-fetched that he would have laughed in any other circumstance. But he needed to get out of this house. Even though the gas had been shut off, Alex felt like he was choking. The air, the rooms, all of it was filled with Norma, stifling his breaths as his head reminded him, every second, that she was gone, and she was never coming back.
