Summary
Lux is about to become Queen, bound in an unwavering union with newly found King Jarvan despite the recent mage rebellion. However, her loyalties are divided between cold and unforgiving Demacia, and Sylas. Equally cold and unforgiving.
For months, she has been smuggling mages out of Demacia, particularly young children. Everything changes one day, when it is announced that her wedding is less than a week away. And Demacian forces are about to descend upon Sylas's camp of mages.
Lux must choose. She can become the future of Demacia, or she can turn into the glimmer of hope that mages need in order to overcome the unfair politics of their country.

So there were basically zero fanfictions that were about Lux/Reader, and I spent a ton of time looking for a decent one. Well, there were either unfinished ones or ones that were pretty bad, so I decided to be the change I want to see in the world and try my best at doing one myself.
In short, after winning an arena event in the capital of Demacia, you get assigned as one of the Royal Guards that act as personal protectors for members of the royal families. You get the duty to protect Luxanna Crownguard, or Lux, as she likes to be called. Her own brother - the popular knight Garen, personally tasked you with watching over his sister, while he was away on campaigns and to follow her everywhere she went and tell him everything she does, or risk getting punished. He has noticed that recently, his sister has been spending a lot of time in private and Garen began to get worried. Will Lux even approve of your presence and task, and how will your relationship develop?

You'd curse your childhood for not allowing you to save your precious friend, trying to grow up too fast. But now that you've grown, you wish you held onto it a little tighter. It hurts to think that Sylas' life was cut short by a nation that he thought would need him and instead being thrown aside but, all you can hope for now is that he wasn't in pain.
You still wish to travel again much to your parents' dismay, the civil war that brews between the denizens of the Freljord isn't a time for a holiday, that much you know. But your child-like dreams still hold themselves firmly in your mind, hoping to see Sylas again one day as adults.
(This is a slowburn, +18, with a splash of angst. (More like a bucket full))

There is little Sylas knows about his best friend's brother, other than that he seems just as stuck up as every other spoiled rich kid. At least, that's what he thinks, and that's what he's been sure of since he and Lux became friends when they were teenagers. Sometimes, though, gilded cages are only that: gilded, and still cages.
