“Shen Wei loves Kunlun,” Zhao Yunlan read. He turned to face Shen Wei, who focused his attention on the phone instead.
“Now I know there have been many people called Shen Wei,” the professor said, “and I wouldn’t have bothered you over a name you share with a man from the ancient past, except look. The way he wrote his name… it’s almost identical to how you write yours.”

Date night is something that Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei try hard to work into their schedules. It’s a way to briefly shuck off their heavy responsibilities and just enjoy time with one another.
And while it’s a goal they strive for most times date night gets pushed aside for things deemed more important. Usually something that involves saving the world.
But today is different. Today Zhao Yunlan has shoved the world and its concerns back for date night to commence. Luckily for him (perhaps not Shen Wei) it’s his turn to pick where they go tonight!

He probably should have brought back-up with him. Scratch that, he should definitely have. Shen Wei is going to be very mad at him, so mad, but that’s a thought for later. Right now, Zhao Yunlan needs to survive the hellish sight that’s before him.

Shen Wei isn’t sure if he considers himself born. If he thinks hard enough, he can bring up hazy, black and white images of a humanoid figure hunched over him; a soft, warm voice sings in a language he has long forgotten, and a gentle hand combs through his hair.
In his darkest days, when he reaches for these images most, he’s not sure if these are a memory or the desperate attempts of a mind seeking comfort.
In any case, language is complex and difficult to get precise, and so born is probably still the best word for how Shen Wei came into being. He was born.
His brother, Ye Zun, was born first. -

Shen Wei had picked Zhao Yunlan from the side of the road to take him home and take care of him. Zhao Yunlan's stomach was all but killing him. Shen was willing if not happy to take care of him, to stay by him all night. Shen Wei tucked him into bed but had the gall not to climb in afterwards. Shen Wei had taken off Zhao Yunlan's shoes and nothing else, not even doing Zhao Yunlan the courtesy of ogling in the name of comfort.
