Artwork I commissioned from Hachiimon from DeviantArt, showing the excavation of the Shadow ship on Mars.

(IPX found the ship, and then IPX, EarthGov and Department Sigma of Psi Corps all got into a fight over it until a second Shadow ship came, dug it out, and both flew away.)

The two figures in front are Al Bester, and a Department Sigma administrator, Aubrey Pierre-Louis.

    Summary

Sandoval Bey was Bester's mentor and father figure when he was a teen in the Corps. (This is canon - he's a character in the canon books and was discussed in the unfilmed Crusade script involving Bester.)

Fragments of his backstory are given in canon - I've pulled them together and I'm reconstructing his story, because his life story is, in a sense, the story of a certain era of the Corps. Bey entered the Corps as a teenager, a "later" from the normal world with no connections, yet eventually rose to be head of all of MetaPol under Director Vacit. His eventual assassination at the hands of Psi Corps Director Johnston (Vacit's successor) marked a pivotal moment both in Psi Corps history, and in Bester's life.

    Part 1 is here.

    Summary

A reader asked me why I'd written in this essay on Psi Corps classrooms why children in a Psi Corps school would be unlikely to try a variety of foods from around the world, and why children wouldn't be likely to try new foods to go with units they were studying in school (about certain cultures, regions, etc.).

I decided to flesh this out into a full essay, so everyone could see the discussion.

    Summary

This is... the start of an epic. I'm basically writing Psi Corps War and Peace. It's about a pair of Psi Cops on a large but outlying colony trying to build a life for themselves and protect their own people in the run-up to the Telepath War, the War, and it's Aftermath, from 2263 through 2266.

Due to strong language, violence, psychological trauma inflicted on human beings of all ages, and (non-explicit to semi-explicit) portrayal of human sexuality this fanfic would probably be rated R by the MPAA. However, my protagonists are gay, so really NC-17. Seriously, there is some fucked up shit in here, and while I shy away from certain graphic details I can paint a picture without getting explicit (I am not writing it to titillate people who need therapy) so...reader beware. I've triggered myself writing this multiple times.

There are certain conventions I'm adopting. Anything in brackets is a deliberate projection. Anything in 'Italics' is a verbalized thought kept internal or at least not projected. Oh, and I speak German, English and some Latin, but a few others get used. Please forgive any errors.

A reader asked me recently: "I have a stupid question and you are the expert on B5 telepaths... So Dust... What happens if a telepath in the B5 universe takes Dust? Do they get the same high as a normal? Or not? A temp boost like when they go into hyperspace? On the flip side, if telepath is victim of Dust user... I don't get why a telepath would be more traumatized, (permanently) as a victim of a Dust user than a normal (temporarily). Bester mentions this in Dust to Dust (god I loved him in that episode), but doesn't explain why."

    Summary

"Do you know what a telepath has to do in order to avoid picking up stray thoughts? We have to kick down our natural abilities. Run rhymes and little songs through our heads, round and round. All that to keep from picking up what you're broadcasting loud enough to be heard halfway down the hall. You're one of those people who rehearses everything, Mr. Garibaldi. You never enter a situation until you've gone over it and over it a hundred times, worked out what you will say, what the other person will say, how you'll respond. It's quite remarkable. And extremely depressing. That little personality quirk must have cost you more than a few relationships. Mundanes want us to fill our heads with noise and babble, so we won't hear what you're shouting at the top of your minds. I didn't need to scan you, Mr. Garibaldi." - Byron Gordon, Paragon of Animals

What are "surface thoughts"? What does it mean to project them (or not)?

This essay also provides an in-depth look at what differentiates P4s from P3s (and at the different levels of "surface thought" telepathy).

A post about the time that one of Bester's teachers telepathically attacked him and landed him in the infirmary - and then lied and called it an "accident."

This story is canon - I'm explaining what was going on and why (and why his teacher was a liar).
