Christopher Pike would do anything for his adopted son, world-renowned archaeologist, Jim Kirk. When Pike's fiercest enemy, John Harrison, kidnaps Jim as a way to destroy Pike, he nearly manages to do so. After fourteen months in captivity, Jim is found, but he is not the son Pike once knew.
After a staggering number of failed attempts to reach Jim, Pike decides there is only one other man who could possibly help - a discouraged, burnt out Dr. Leonard H. McCoy.
There's more than meets the eye behind McCoy's reluctance to take the case. He'd rather take the highway, keep this tragic part of his life behind him...
But if there is one man who can convince him to return, to take on what appears to be a hopeless situation, it's the patient, himself. Jim.
***The “prequel” to this story is now finished. Act 2 will begin in Chapter 12.***
