“I almost never met you.” Sherlock whispers into the darkness. His tone neither forlorn, nor indifferent. He says it as if he’s bewildered by the thought. Statement and question all at once.
John has no idea what to say to that. He kisses Sherlock instead, dips his fingers just under the waistband of pyjama bottoms, begins tugging them down.

Intimate on all levels.
Author especially does a great job showing how their slow build of increased proximity and then increased touching shows their hesitancy, their fears about being accepted after an awkward first time, and their growing trust and closeness on multiple levels:
starting from hesitantly climbing into bed together, to hands resting near and parallel but not touching, to the sweet and brave opening move of pinky fingers touching and overlapping, to wandering knees testing the waters for further touch, to lifting legs to allow for entangled limbs, to moving closer to the point where they're sharing breath, to sensuous kissing and rutting, to pulling hips, legs, all closer, shifting closed and closer for more touching ... it makes the magnitude of them touching all along their bodies while spooning during sex (and yay for underrepresented side sex!) and octopus snuggle spooning post coitus that much more meaningful
