There's Akechi, bandaging his wounds in the dusty summer evenings with gentle hands; Akechi, reading the English aloud for his sake; Akechi, with undue viciousness, tearing at the shadow that had threatened them.
"Don't worry," he said. "I won't let them touch you." But oh, they're not the ones he's afraid of.
There's no Haru, this time. No Makoto or Yusuke or Ann or Ryuji or Morgana to tell him that he's making a mistake (again) and he'll regret this (eventually) and this won't end happily (or peacefully); no, it's just him and Akechi and a list of palaces to rip through in record time. What did they call it? Thick as thieves?
Akira tries to remember what he's here for.

What do you mean?” Ryuji tilted his head.
“It’s called Just Die. It reduces the SP needed for Insta kill skills like Mudoon or 'Please Die for Me' to zero.”
Ryuji and Ann blinked and blinked again trying to figure out what Morgana is trying to say. He watched as the gears churn in their head and they come to an epiphany, their faces growing horrified at the implications.
“Wait, you are saying. Joker can insta-kill literally everything in this palace. WITHOUT using SP at all?!” Ryuji clarified in astonishment because there is no way there isn’t a catch to this. “Without repercussion?!”
“Yes. That is exactly what I’m saying.”
Or the NG+ au where Akira knows more than he lets on, the Phantom Thieves start to suspect one of their own, and Akechi is in for a wild ride.

Bookmarker's Notes
NEW GAME PLUS — Akira goes through the game once more. But isn’t very good at dealing with the time travel aspect. He has his friends all suspicious of him. But hey, at least he gets Akechi right. 😂
THOUGHTS — An All Time Favorite! Ahhh this awesome! I’m glad I was able to catch it! It’s kind of like a mix of P5 and P5R. Like, no Maruki or Kasumi, but lots of bonding with Akechi! That’s not the important part tho. This is the kind of time travel where not much changes big-picture wise (at least until later in the game). But that’s fine because it’s mostly character-driven. That is, while the plot is fun and all. It’s really the characters that make this shine. The author has taken a very unique perspective to this whole thing. Akira is still Max STATS and everything. But he’s just very bad at hiding the fact that he’s a time travel. And his friends are suspicious of him because of it.
That’s the whole driving conflict of the story. Not whether or not they get a happy ending. But what the characters will do after certain things come to light, etc.etc! It’s my favorite kind of fic! And what’s more. It’s written very well! The pacing is well done too. It glosses over things that we know and only spends time on the things that changed and are of interest. The author’s prose is also very engaging. It’s easy to read and the language flows well. Oh! And you can’t forget the drawings! They add such a unique touch to the whole fic. I honestly don’t know how they’re able to draw and write so well but they do!
Definitely recommended! Would read it again myself soon too!

Can't believe I read this for three years!! Need to go back and comment, but: this is an absolutely fabulous story about New Game+ like you've never imagined. There are so many twists and turns that by the end you don't even recognize the hot dirt road you (and Noctis) started on (again). Bonus for being gen. A sad ending is coming, but at least the author warned me about it first.
I'm already invested in Part 2??? How can this be???

Akechi’s smiling, and the barrel of the gun shines brightly as it presses against Akira’s temple. The metal’s cold, strangely impersonal, considering Akechi’s standing so close to Akira. Akira can feel the heat of the detective, the traitor, feeling the tremble of his hand as the gun digs a little deeper into his forehead.
Akechi smiles.
Akira can only think, for that brief moment, about how sad that fake smile is.
A bang.
Loud, it rings Akira’s ears, stings the skin of his face with burning embers.
The world goes to a peaceful, blissful, black.

Bookmarker's Notes
A new gem of a fic!! New game plus that splits off from the path originally laid out in canon and introduces Akira with max stats to mess up the whole timeline.
Basic premise: Akira is sent back a couple years in the past — he has no idea why. He just woke up on the first day he came to Tokyo. Some things stay the same, but a lot of things are different as we are introduced to a more charming but a serious mess of an Akira. It makes a lot of things easier, but also a lot of things more difficult.
I don’t know how this will end tbh. So far, it seems like Akira is pretty much just running away from as much as he can without thought — it’s just the beginning of the story, so I’m curious how that will change. Certain things he seems fine with, but there are signs that this new habit of his is gonna cause some burned bridges (or temporarily burned bridges — I’m sure it will all work out, but I’m assuming it won’t work out as any of us expect it to.) Either way, I’m looking forward to what’s coming up. I’m definitely going to be keeping an eye on this story. It’s equal parts intriguing, funny, fulfilling, and exciting.
TBH Akechi and Akira in this is cute. I definitely want to see more of them. As well as the other PTs — all of whom the author has portrayed incredibly true to form. I’m curious about certain things that are highlighted (like Ann’s comment about insecurity, Akira’s Lie to Makoto, and even how Akira has decided not to tell anyone of the future.) Again, it kind of makes me anxious about burned bridges, but in a good way. The author does a good job leveraging all the nail-biting scenes with their humor, and their incredible writing skills. So... all in all. HMM I highly recommend that you read it!! I’ll be watching this closely for updates as well. I’m hoping the author sticks to it. And wish them luck! They really are amazing at writing, and I can’t believe how lucky I am to read this, even if it’s just in its beginning stages.
1ST REREAD THOUGHTS — It’s a little further along now! But boy is it slow moving. Not even the updates, necessarily. But the author likes to show the same scene over again with diff POVs. Which I don’t generally mind, it’s great insight, that’s for sure. But I’m not sure how I feel about it being a constant thing? Anyways, it’s a stylistic choice that doesn’t really do much to harm the overall enjoyment I get when reading this fic. It was jus Tsk me thing I was thinking about when I was skimming through Goro’s POV of scenes we had already seen from Akira. It was cute at first, but the detail in it really slows down the pacing. Making the story move in a snail-like pace, despite the long jumps in between.
Other than that aspect tho? I have nothing else to comment about. It’s a great read! I found the setup to be the most interesting! Akira is undoubtedly a little frustrating here. Since most of his choices have been pretty sucky. But it’s definitely a unique take from the usual fix-it. So I don’t mind that. There’s enough lighthearted moments to stave off most of the stress from the tension and stuff.

This wasn’t a second chance, this wasn’t a redemption, this was Goro playing the only card left in his hand in a desperate bid to take Shido down with him before he had to fold. Fuck the election, he was killing that asshole the second he could get a bullet in his brain, and if that meant playing nice with the Phantom Thieves -- well, he’d done worse than that before.
He closed his eyes against the light. Dying, he thought, would’ve been so much easier.

Bookmarker's Notes
TIME TRAVEL — NG+ Akechi edition. Akechi is given another chance at life and is taken back to the start of it all (April 9th) with all his memories in tact. None of the other PTs remember. Or so it seems anyway. But even with Akechi alone, lots of things are changing already. He’s formed a bond with Ren, Boss, Futaba, and now, in the latest chapter is tackling a palace with them,
THOUGHTS — Read it up to Ch. 10, the most recent chapter. I’m not sure if it will be updating any time soon, but it seems the author was passionate about the story, and even noted that it was getting to the exciting part, so here’s to hoping.
The story is very intriguing. I really like NewGame+ dynamics. And this one is so Crow-centric that it’s very intriguing. Honestly, I have no idea what is going to happen. The new Oracle/Crow friendship, Joker’s mysteriousness, or even this abrupt LEFT from canon (SPOILERS I mean them going into Shido’s castle like very very early in game.) I like the fact that the author decided to play with the story so drastically like this. I think a lot of NewGame+ fics I’ve read thus far have pretty much chosen the complete opposite. Which is good in its own way, but also lacking the kind of intrigue and mystery that this one offers.
All in all, I highly recommend this to anyone even remotely interested in Akechi as a character. If you’re not a fan of unfinished works, I’d go as far as to recommend bookmarking it to read in the future. The stories only real downside so far, after all, is that it’s not really past it’s infancy yet. I’m assuming??? We’re just starting to get to the thick of things, so it does kill the mood a bit to not be sure whether it will be updated or not.
Either way though, I think the story is more than worth that risk.
1ST REREAD THOUGHTS — Still as enjoyable as last time! The writing is quite nice too. Some parts were a bit harder to read than I remember, but that’s probably thanks to my short attention span (there were certain sections with just one long paragraph after another and I’m just allergic of those in general LMFAO.) Still a very interesting take on the usual NG trope tho. I mean this is entirely in Akechi’s POV, and it’s Akechi that remembers so! Yes! Very fun.
It hasn’t been updated in a year. But the author seems to be active still, so here’s to hoping it’ll come back. Kind of sucks that it leaves off just when things were starting to get exciting, but 🤷🏻♀️ I’ll be keeping an eye on it nonetheless.

TIME TRACEL — A role reversal of new game plus. With fool trickster Akechi the owner of the Velvet Room. Joker is still a wildcard of course, but there are many things different on this canon divergent fic. It’s very Akechi-centric, so it focuses more on Akechi building his bonds (since Time Travel means Joker already had his bonds MAXED), and can be taken as a pretty good fix-it, with lots of angst included of course.
There are some parts of the story that confused me. I think mostly the parts referencing the end of the story or Akechi’s past (I never finished P5 so I’d say that’s a given.) But it was still an enjoyable read despite that. I like the twist the author used — merging two of the most popular tropes in this fandom (new game plus and role reversal), and its definitely one to remember.
I don’t believe it’s all that dark either. Kind of dramatic and angsty of course. But I cant recall anything too triggering. Aside from moments of suicidal ideation and the link (in both the main character’s POVs.) because of that, I think it’s More than okay for most people and thus something I would definitely recommend you give a try.
1ST REREAD THOUGHTS — I enjoyed it a lot more now that I’ve finished the game at least twice!! LMFAO. As expected, not having seen the ending made it impossible to understand the last time! But now, i can see why some of the latter choices are so satisfying! I’m glad I reread it.

TIME TRAVEL — New Game Plus,,. But not. This is based on if Akira came from one of the bad endings and actually died (specifically, the ending where he wasn’t able to convince Sae to take the phone, and thus, ending up being shot by Akechi. He’s sent back to the very beginning, and meets Akechi first thing. Setting off their relationship on his first day of school.
THOUGHTS — Another good take on the new game plus angle. Of course, with a twist. Akita goes back to the the past at the moment of his ‘death’ based off a bad end I haven’t seen. We also get the Goro is a wildcard used in this fic, but it’s not really the focus of the fic abilities wise. Mostly, it’s on the forgin bonds part of the rehabilitation process.
Can’t say more than that without spoiling it all. I suppose. I like the pacing, some may call it slow? But I’ve always preferred longer fics so this one worked perfectly. Writing was done very well. No horrendously obvious grammar mistakes, outside from like a handful of typos that are very normal for fan fiction. And I Hmmm... what else? It’s a redemption story of Akechi in Akita’s POV but if ur not into that, but you’re into introspection, intrigue, and lots and lots of lies LMFAO (this is new game plus after all), I recommend u try it out anyways. It’s a solid fic for sure.
1ST REREAD THOUGHTS — OOF it’s a lot further along now than it was before. It leaves off at a pretty crappy place, ngl T.T but it’s a great read! And definitely still a favorite. It’s all in Akira’s POV (mentioned before), which is notable, and it does a good job with pacing. It never spends too much time on things that don’t change, so it feels like an entirely new story even if, external plot-wise, nothing much changed. I like the fact that it’s very character driven! It really gives the story good meaning. And it makes the characters easy to connect with.
OH and thing to note LMAO but for some reason? I thought that Akira might have let Shiho jump??? I was so confused by that, since the passage wasn’t clear. Honestly it bothered me so much. Like so... Akira let someone get sexually assaulted and jump off the school roof just to get Ann to join? I spent a good twenty minutes using the search function to confirm or deny this, and for the life of me, I could not find ANYTHING LMFAO. At one point in the story, they make a point to say that it was “almost suicide” which I didn’t understand. And then when the “physical therapy” was mentioned I was like :0 wow... he really did that. He really allowed that to happen??? And yet we’re meant to believe he would go above and beyond to help his friends and save people???
I mean, he allows lots of other shit to happen too. With Akechi killing people. So maybe it’s not totally OOC???? But I dunno... Shiho was right there.... so idk man. That part of the story bugged me a lot. But since it wasn’t mentioned all that often, I was able to look past it.
Otherwise though? I have nothing to complain about. The story is solid and the writing is too! Would definitely reread!

Bookmarker's Notes
TIME TRAVEL — Akira, from 3 years in the future. Is sent back to the past. And the first person he runs into, not a day after he arrives in Tokyo for the ‘first’ time, is Akechi! Everything goes wrong from the moment he arrives. He doesn’t have the app, he can’t call up a persona, and the whole timeline goes wonky because he fails at doing what he did in the past (which means that some things stay the same and other things don’t.)
THOUGHTS — My second p5 fic! An interesting shift to the new game plus mechanics. I don’t want to spoil things too much, even if it’s just for the next time I re-read it. But this is not what I expected at all — in a very good way.
The writing is superb, the characters full of life (like they feel like real people, rather than just actors of a play, if that makes any sense. And although some may say the pacing is slow, I wouldn’t? Lmfao, it’s a very slow moving story, but it works out perfectly that way. Very character focused as well. I like how the author seems to be very familiar with the canon dynamics and yet chose to shift things from what is normally expected of new game plus fics.
Overall a favorite for sure. It’s unfinished. Currently at ch.19? I believe it was. I’ll have to re-read it again soon. I’m curious about what will happen next.
ME IN THE FUTURE MAKE SURE TO READ WHEN IT UPDATES OR FINISHES
1ST REREAD THOUGHTS — Ahhhh this was one of the first fics I read, and even back then, when I knew absolute nothing of the PAIN that these two will suffer, this was a banger for me. I love it even more now that I DO know. It’s very in-character. I still stand by what I said about the characters being alive too, and everything else complimentary that I said LMAO 😂 I think I’ve said enough already. But just in case. My fav. Fact about this fic is that it is very character driven. You still get a unique and fun new twist to the plot. But, for the most part, most of the action, most of what really makes this story riveting, is the character development that all the characters undergo.
Honestly, it’s an amazing read. Lots of things are still left up in the air at the moment, but in glad I went back to reread this much more slowly. It shouldn’t be read any other way than that. It’s very subtle in its prose and yet also very honest? Idk what I mean. It’s just VERY VERY GOOD.
And yes! I will definitely read it again, unfinished it or not!

TIME TRAVEL — New Game+ Akira is sent back in time with memories of everything that happened the first go around. He meets Akechi first thing and the two change history by becoming a lot closer than they did in canon. And no, no one else remembers outside of him. They still have Akechi’s situation to deal with though. And the fact that Akira never once bothers to try to tell anyone anything.
THOUGHTS — First Persona 5 fic I ever read and definitely and all time favorite! Ngl, I was king of skeptical at first. The writing is good, I’ve got no complaints there. A little cheesy at times, but have some fun in between the angst turned out to be just perfect for this story.
I actually read it before finishing the game BPFFT so major spoilers for me. That’s for sure. But I was about 75+ hours into persona 5 when I realized I wanted to play persona 5 royal instead skidkdldl so I figure meh. While I wait for the disc to arrive, why not read some og persona 5 fics?
I planned on only reading up to the point I stopped in the story, but I just couldn’t put it down. Now I think I’ll have to finish the of p5 after all 😭 even if I know akechi cants technically be saved there. But I figure replaying p5r will be more powerful knowing how this ends
Anyways I’ve rambled enough. It’s a great story! Cute. Fun. Kinda devastating at times so definite prefer for that. But mixed in with all the fluff? It’s more than worthwhile. The pacing is good too, and you get a lot of content, I’m kind of confused about a lot of what happened at the end. But I’m assuming that’s cause I don’t have context for that portion of the story lmao 😂 perhaps? When I replay p5r whenever that is — maybe weeks, months, or years from now. I’ll reread this just for that
1ST REREAD THOUGHTS — First re-read attempt. I didn’t get very far (ch.13 at most!) mostly because I just read it LMFAO but also because I discovered a couple of things I missed out on the first read through. Like the fact that the writing is actually not as good as I thought it was?? I guess it gets better, since I praised it in my previous review, but in the beginning, there were quite a few awkward writing errors. Some small, like misspelling remainder as reminder, and some more bigger and more common (one of which was constantly misusing won’t rather than don’t.)
There is a distinct lack of pacing in the beginning too. It’s either it all happens at once, or you get a lengthy expositionary paragraph on what just happened. And, ngl, characterizations were pretty meh.
I guess my second read through, were I tried to read it more slowly and thoroughly, had the adverse effect of making me more aware of all the negatives. Which suck, because this really is a pretty good fic. I still recommend it anyway, just be aware that it’s not perfect — which is true for most fics anyway 🤷🏻♀️ I think, just like my first read through, which was almost completely positive, you’ll enjoy it. I guess I just won’t recommend reading it too soon, after ur first read through?
2ND REREAD THOUGHTS — I got a lot farther this time! I still think it’s worth the read, the writing is pretty rough, but it’s not unreadable. The Joker/Crow relationship is established pretty early on tho. Which I think is what threw me off my 1st reread run. But, other than that? It’s still a fun canon compliant read. Not much changes except for the addition of Crow into the gang very very early on. But this focused less on the Palaces and stuff anyway. It was mostly character drama and development. So that works out.
Overall? A good read.

The last line is just perfect, after all of that build-up, it just hits hard and it's great! I also love how tragic both Yu's and Namatame's sections are.

Sometimes, changing one's fate does not require much. A conversation going a certain way; a train taken together on a rainy morning.
Perhaps all one Akechi Goro needed to find his salvation was a cup of ramen being exchanged for a healthy meal for once...
...well, that, and Kurusu Akira who remembers the future and is now determined to save him, of course.
