For those people, two children wanted to say they all were so very lucky to have been born into a universe free of needles and blinding white lights, to have been born into an environment that hadn’t been planning on abusing them until they became mindless pawns.
Atsushi only ever learned of their name once their older brother told it to them, and even then, neither of two children were related by blood. Chuuya didn’t know how to explain what had happened or how he knew his younger brother’s name or his own. He had no memories of the first incident, after all. But maybe that was okay, for now.

“See? Even I make mistakes.” His voice lowers to a conspiratorial whisper. “But don’t tell Chuuya about that, okay? I want to see how long he goes on thinking there are actual chocolate cows.”
Atsushi can’t help it—he laughs. It bubbles up within him, a feeling of release carrying him back to shore. They might only be playing pretend, but he’ll trust in that lie until it becomes real.

But arriving at the Armed Detective Agency brought a lot of new experiences, and Atsushi wasn't entirely prepared to thrust into friendships (and hugs) like this.
