Summary
The Nuzlocke curse is rare, but more common then would be suspected for something that seemingly no one has heard of. And in a society where so much is tied to battles and to Pokemon, having your life tied to those battles can make life very difficult indeed when you can't explain to anyone what's going on.
When Brendan finds out that he's cursed, a day into his Pokemon journey, he decides that only way to deal with it is to become the best so he never looses again. Serena conversely quits fighting all together even as it means giving up on the one thing she's vowed to achieve.
And in the background of this is the question of what caused this curse and why they cannot speak its name and be heard.

They help each other with their diseases and try to cope them distracting themselves with things an uncle and a niece would do together. But this time, Blanchard has to work to Ferrum region due to a promotion for a year, and since he doesn't want to leave Jenna alone, he asks Grimsley to take care of her. Every Pokemon Trainer learns the same things: A Pokemon can faint an infinite number of times and it will still be fine. You can catch however many Pokemon you want in any area. Pokemon levels can go up almost infinitely, the only limit being your own patience. You can use as many items as you have with you in any battle. But not here. In this world, Pokemon don’t faint. They die. As soon as you find a new Pokemon in any area, all other Pokemon in that area can’t be caught, even if you don’t catch the one you run into. If a Pokemon’s level exceeds that of the next gym leader’s highest, that Pokemon must be benched until after you beat said gym leader. Other trainers can use items in battle, but our trainer cannot. Also, if at any point our protagonist loses a battle, meaning that all of his Pokemon faint, that’s it. He must throw away his badges, release all but one of his Pokemon, and his journey is over.
