In December of 2006, five of the top-performing students of the Wammy House for Gifted Children are asked to bug the office of their headmaster, the ever-disgruntled Roger Ruvie, for reasons even they can't name.

Summary
It was supposed to be one of the best days of Light's life. That's what his father told him, at least. Just as how being the top student at school was, and how being accepted at the best college was, and how being promoted to the position Light wants will be, and same for the days his children are successfully born.
Until this day was ruined. His wedding was ruined. By his fiancée, a model with a body that Light could never be attracted to. Quite an upsetting day.
Unfortunately for Light, things were about to get worse and simultaniously better from there. Most of all thanks to a strange wedding attendee named Ryuzaki.

Lupin e Jigen estão no meio de um trabalho quando uma figura do passado de Lupin surge inesperadamente. Tudo o que Ryuzaki quer é a ajuda do melhor ladrão cavaleiro para roubar de volta um certo caderno de uma coleção lendária e tudo o que pode oferecer é um pagamento muito vantajoso. É claro que Lupin sabia que era uma má ideia aceitar ajudar Ryuzaki, principalmente com as questões que tornaram tudo entre eles uma imensa bola de neve de ressentimento e mágoa, mas ele tinha contas a pagar e um atirador para agradar então sua recusa era impossível. Logo todos eles estariam revendo questões que guardaram dentro de si mesmos por anos e, talvez, tirar algum proveito desse emaranhado de personagens confinados atrás da mesma coisa. O impossível sempre se torna possível quando o mundo está em chamas e Jigen conviveu o suficiente com aquele tipo de pessoa para saber como sobreviver a isso. E seria bom se Mishima não tentasse matar ninguém dessa vez. É, Ryuzaki ficaria grato.

He flipped through it, skimming the (remarkably intricate) rules on the inner cover before he closed the strange notebook with a shrug. He was about to set it back onto the grass where he'd found it, and chalk it up to some odd prank. But he paused, and ended up taking out his phone instead, tapping the first (and only) number on his favourites list.
"Ryuzaki," he said, "I just found something interesting at school. I’m heading to the office now, meet me there and I’ll tell you about it."

Japan was colonized by England in 1697. England and Scotland joined to become Great Britain in 1704. Now it is 1720.
Light Yagami was born in Japan but does not remember much of it. His family moved all the way to Port Royal, Jamaica, when he was very young. His father is a minor ship captain in the Royal Navy, but does not have the Captain rank. Born into the upper middle-class, Light lived a comfortable life. Shortly after turning 16, he fled and became a pirate. At some point during his 17th year, he became a pirate captain. Now 18, he is still reckless and inexperienced but has a fierce reputation, causing havoc and destruction.
So the Crown sends Captain Lawliet, a young, prodigious naval officer with an impressive record of arresting pirates and winning battles, to bring Light into custody. He’s won the highest award possible in the navy…the Order of Black Lions. While his methods are unorthodox and he doesn’t care much for the military’s strict rules, his skills are undeniable and the Royal Family allows him to do pretty much as he pleases. This man is the one all pirates fear, known by various epithets. A game of cat and mouse begins between the two young captains that will shake the Caribbean.
