4 Works in Malorie (Bird Box 2018)
It’s just her now. Her, and two babies, and Douglas. Douglas, who thinks everything is a huge mistake, who’s never wrong, who’s making the end of the world great again. She wishes it were anyone else.
AU where Douglas lives, and the years after.
On the supply run, Malorie comes across something that triggers her fondest memory of her and her sister.
"Insane" is a legal definition, not a psychological one. Every person who has been deemed "insane" is, by definition, a criminal. So why add "criminally" to the term? Did these people commit special high-level crimes? In any case, they're out there. They've probably formed a compound somewhere, where they plan to reproduce and give birth in broad daylight. A compound that might welcome me with open arms.
Premise slightly reimagined. Malorie has depression and the monsters work a little differently, but everything else is the same. This is my attempt at fixing the parts of Bird Box that unfairly villainize mentally ill people while keeping the things about it that made it a good story. Trigger Warning for graphic depictions of depression and suicidal thoughts, death, attempted murder, and ableism.
“..it’s going to be you me and Jessica and some hard-ass Labor and delivery nurse, making the same jokes, only this time you won’t be going home alone…” Dr. Lapham tries to think about the present, until the past comes around again.
