Common Ground by AceQueenKing
How Adm. Firmus Piett pledged himself to the dark lord Vader. A nice balance of emotional/introspection and action to move the story along.
He affixed his new insignia; Admiral. It felt...odd. Unreal. He hadn't bothered to buy a new uniform set; that seemed far too much a waste. He saved every credit the navy deposited in his account; he would not take the pleasures of the Admiralty that Ozzel had so often indulged in - liquor, hired women, spice. Such things held little appeal to him and he doubted he would live long enough for his dislike for such base indulgences to hurt his career.
Besides, the low collar that had come into popularity with the recent re-design revealed things he'd rather keep hidden. Self-consciously, he touched the bump where his tracker had once been.
Soon, he reminded himself. Soon he wouldn't be the only Piett in Republic space. Soon, they would be free.

"There will be press covering the Landings," Admiral Komak interjected when Pike hesitated. "We expect you to wear your dress uniforms and charm the cameras. This is a public relations and recruitment opportunity without equal. You will not waste it."
Jim had to bite the inside of his cheek to prevent the noise of understanding from leaving his mouth. This was what Pike hadn’t liked.
[...]
"We understand, sir," Jim interjected before Spock could put a foot in it. "Commander Spock and I would like it officially logged that we object to this plan. We will, of course, follow our orders to the best of our ability, but we both agree that this plan will backfire in ways none of us has the context to anticipate."
Komak shot him a superior look, clearly thinking he had won this round.

Why in this lonely old town by Penknife
Method leaves Joe either with a present or a curse before he disappears. It depends on how you look at the memory.
Methos grinds up against him, a slow drag of his hips up the length of Joe's groin, his breath puffing steam against Joe's mouth. It does what it's supposed to do. It's been a while, but Joe's tried it too, which he blames on boredom, curiosity, and loneliness, just boiled down into a little less time than centuries.
It might simpler if this were really Adam Pierson, but probably not. Adam Pierson would think of Joe as some kind of mentor, and screwing him would be something that mattered, something that weighed heavy in a short life. This isn't going to mean anything. He's going to roll off Methos like water.

A Very Vulcan Christmas by aroving
We've all had that time where we stayed home/on campus/at the job over the holidays (even/especially if they weren't our holidays)... T'Pring is a thousand times cooler than we were.
"What information do you seek to disseminate?" T'Pring inquires. The man appears to be having trouble speaking, but gestures in the direction of one of his signs. The writing is easy to read, large, neatly colored black letters. AND AS IT IS APPOINTED UNTO MEN ONCE TO DIE BUT AFTER THIS THE JUDGEMENT.
"That is a sentence fragment," T'Pring observes.
"Ma'am, I'm gonna just ask you, have you ever sinned?" the man asks. He takes two steps forward. Perhaps he is from a culture where the designated radius of "personal space" is smaller.
"And that is a non-sequitur," says T'Pring, reprovingly. "Your debate skills appear to be below average, as do your oratorial abilities. Both of these faults will prove do be harmful in your chosen career. Are you aware that the university offers free remedial speech classes to students?"

Lovers and Angels by Alara J Rogers
One of my favorite works for one of my first 'ships.
Ready, Semele? the voice in my head asks, rich and dark, half-mocking, half indulgent.
That's hardly my name, Q. And you are no Zeus.
I was always more partial to Hermes, myself.
And the light... appears.

Past Duties by astolat
Picard/Q was one of my first 'ships. This was (and is) one of my favs about them... pretty sure I read it on live journal back in the day.
The PADD was lying on the table where he'd left it, the 'document waiting' signal light still flashing. He set his glass aside and finally picked it up. He couldn't fault Admiral Myocera for asking him to review the battle analysis, but it still rankled that this of all tasks was the one he couldn't get away from even now. He'd never thought of himself as a man of war, and yet he already knew that he'd be remembered first if not only as the architect of the piecemeal, grinding destruction of the Borg. His other achievements would slide into obscurity, noted in passing by historians of the war.
And it was understandable, of course, but he couldn't help wishing, even as he recognized the absurdity of the vanity, that he could have achieved a richer legacy. Making peace with the Borg, finding a way to open a real dialogue with them—that would have been something to be proud of. He'd never been able to find a way.
So this was what he would leave instead: an enemy overcome, the security of the Federation preserved, and a handful of essays and articles. Perhaps a book, if he ever finished his memoirs. Lately, he thought he might not. A few too many strangers had asked; it made him curiously reluctant.

Two Steps Away by waldorph
This makes me cry, every time.
"We're 33, and haven't had a day off since the day Vulcan got destroyed," Jim points out. "That was eight years ago by the way. I want a vacation, and you promised."
Spock sighs, and then leans in and kisses him. "I did, yes."
"So shut up and enjoy our new digs."
It is nice, a little out-of-the-way planet orbiting a little out-of-the-way sun. They'd found Quara in that second year of their tour, just before it all went to shit and they got recalled so that Starfleet could launch an offense. Spock had stood and looked around silently for a long, long time, and when Jim had asked he had simply said that the terrain reminded him of Vulcan. The people of Quara were reptilian, but welcoming and friendly, and they hadn't minded at all when Spock and Jim had shown up and bought an out-of-the-way house.
Looked at them a bit oddly, but they must have been a sight, sleep-deprived and wild-eyed, not quite trusting that it was all over.

Crowning Glory by lazulisong
A short and poignant view of a female Spock growing up in the AOS.
She's sitting in the garden, waiting for Grandmother to come and do her hair up. She's getting to be a big girl now and her hair is nearly to her waist.
"Spock," says Sybok.
She looks up, and he puts a finger to his mouth in a gesture he learned from Mother, and beckons to her. Spock hesitates, looking at the door, and then gets up and goes to him.
"I'm going to do your hair for the feast," says Sybok, and Spock stares at him, because she knows perfectly well that Grandmother won't let anybody, even Mother, do her hair for a feast day. [...] "I won't let you get in trouble," he promises, and Spock sits down in front of him. Sybok always keeps his promises.

The Rule of Silences by genarti
As beautiful and painful as the shards of a stained glass window.
Sarek expected the passengers of this convoy to have difficulty with this. He is, after all, accustomed to such privations as an Ambassador, and in fact finds shipboard life a stimulating exercise in minimalism. But most of the population of Vulcan has never been off-planet; they are a singularly rooted species. Sarek had prepared a number of logical reassurances for those troubled by various aspects of this new experience.
He realizes now that he had forgotten a critical fact: only those Vulcans who ventured off-planet are now alive.

Sarek threaded his way through the narrow corridors of the transport vessel. Spock -- his Spock -- would have been tucked away in some corner, reading; Sarek did not know where the other Spock was likely to be.
He finally located him in the ship's mess, reading from a tricorder screen and sipping a hot, dark beverage Sarek could not identify. Spock raised his head and met Sarek's eyes; Sarek stifled a wave of unease. "Ambassador Spock," he said, "may I join you?"
Spock's mouth quirked. "Of course, Ambassador Sarek."

The Saavadrin Winds by Deb Walsh (debwalsh)
3 Works: the first one is the main story, the second two are short follow-ups is the same universe
- ▪️Shards Complete, ~12,000 words
- The annual Saavadrin wind race is a right of passage for Vulcan males, but what happens when a Vulcan-human hybrid takes to the water in a one-manned craft with unVulcanly origins?
- ▪️ Duet Complete, ~2,000 words
- Ambassador Soval entertains an unexpected guest at Starfleet Academy - but can his old friend get past his own pain to reach out to his son?
- ▪️ Coda Complete, ~3,000 words
- In his first year at Starfleet Academy, Spock of Vulcan finds he doesn't fit in on Earth any more than he fit in on Vulcan. But when his resident advisor proposes a novel solution, has he struck the right note?
A poignant story of how Spock comes to leave Vulcan, and the deep love his parents have for him. Also, there's a sail race.
Finally, Spock seemed to have his boat or whatever it was constructed, and he straightened and took a single step back to survey his work. One last tweak, and he seemed satisfied. In one smooth motion, he scooped it up, strode briskly to the edge of the canal, and suddenly disappeared from view.
A moment later, he resurfaced, shook the water from his eyes, and levered himself up in a cascade of glistening water onto the deck of his vessel. There, he grabbed hold of the mast, shifted a few times to test his footing, and waited.
If it was possible, a greater hush fell upon the plateau. She sensed it, too. The wind was turning.
She glanced toward the mountains and saw the deep violet cloud above them churn with turbulence. Then suddenly, the clouds began to shred, and the howling pushed away the hush. A sound very like an oncoming freight train pounded across the plain, and she had to open and close her mouth a couple of times to make the pressure pop in her ears. A breath later, the Saavedrin winds slammed into the plateau like the hand of God. She felt Sarek’s arm curl protectively around her waist as the winds buffeted them in the viewing area; that was nothing to what the contestants faced.
In one swift motion, the barrier holding back the competing craft was swept away, and they were off.

Sulu’s voice cracked over the speaker. “Er…Sir? Commander Spock is…not on the ship, sir.”
His eyes drew sharply to the intercom as though Kirk could see Sulu’s face through it and intimidate him into telling the truth. “What do you mean, ‘not on the ship’? Have there been any unauthorized shuttle launches?”
“That was the first thing I checked, sir.”
“Unauthorized transports?”
“Negative, sir. There have been no unauthorized functions of any kind. Ship’s log places the Commander’s last known location in the computer library facility.”

Good Morning, Starshine (The Earth Says Hello) by TheFisherKitty
Humans like to leap before they look. Some Vulcans do too. Note: this story has a lot of frank body assessments and even more sex, but it's in service of the story. Some might rate it an E, but in my mind, you could probably film what's written - but not what's implied - in a rated R film.
None of that just yet, he thought. Trying to fuck his extraterrestrial guest again without the offer of coffee after a night of drinking like that would be just plain rude. He offered one of the mismatched mugs, the fancier one with garish orange and yellow flowers on olive green ceramic, to the alien man.
“It’ll help with the taste,” he explained, demonstrating with a sip of his own as he settled back onto his mattress, the Vulcan following suit and seeming to not dislike the morning ritual particularly. A tepid people, these, unless one managed to get them to let their hair down. The others of their group hadn’t seemed particularly impressed and had gone back to the ship for the night; Zefram was mightily surprised when he’d gotten this one, the leader - Solar, or something like... Solkar? Solkar, to let him take him home.

I Know It When I See it. by scarletjedi
Probably the hottest safe sex I've read in years.
Notable for the way sex (past and present) is seen not only as a positive thing, but without an ounce of shame or degradation. There is some fleeting guilt and jealousy; but it moves the plot along.“Well,” Jim said. “There’s the final whistle. It’s quitting time, boys and girls.”
Spock raised an eyebrow. “I heard no whistle,” he said. “Are you certain your hearing hasn’t been affected? Perhaps Doctor McCoy—“
Out of the corner of his eye, Spock saw Lt. Sulu exchange an amused look with Ensign Chekov. Even Lt. Uhura seemed to be suppressing a smile as she handed over her station to Lt. Carlyle. Jim, however, played right into it.
“No, no, Spock. There was no actual whistle.” Jim explained, his grin fading but not gone entirely. “It’s an expression.”
Spock looked at Jim for a beat, before he raised his chin. “Oh, of course. A final whistle, as a reference to nineteenth and twentieth century factories, which used a series of bells and whistles to denote the various changes in shifts.”
Jim’s smile had frozen, almost wiped from his face, but his eyes were narrowed suspiciously. “You knew what it was in reference to,” he said.
“I did,” Spock confirmed.
Jim sucked on a tooth. “You were having me on.”
Spock raised an eyebrow. “I was simply attempting to—“
“Mess with me; to fool with my perceptions of your understanding of Earth culture for the purpose of amusement,” Jim interrupted. Spock blinked.
“Yes,” he said, his tone indicating that it was the only logical conclusion, and therefore obvious.
Jim grinned. “Spock, I’m proud of you.”
