Ronan Lynch wants a life of meaning. He wants to experience the world and have a life with Adam Parrish - no matter what. But he's trapped - by the ley line, by the government, by the fear of the unknown.
Until a ghost from the past shows up and offers him a way out, a way to be the person he always wanted to be, a way to impact the world, a way to not be forever alone inside. But with the resurrection of Joseph Kavinsky comes the resurrection of other things: unresolved trauma, an overabundance of self-doubt and distrust and warring desires, and the increasing realization that he wasn't known... and that he /wanted/ to be known.
Kavinsky offers him a resolution: help me get what I want and I will help you get what you want.
It's a deal with the devil.
It's the promise of freedom at the cost of becoming a player on a global sociopolitical chessboard.
