Both physical and metaphorical. Your Make is your identity. You cannot change who you are, but you can change your Mask and be something else.
Leaf Meyers, a young orphan learning more about herself as her Mask slowly breaks. Broken or missing Masks are punishable by death. Leaf has no family, no friends, literally nothing to live for.l, so why shouldn't she just take off her mask and let the world see her for herself?
Cyrus Falls has always felt comfortable in his Mask, mainly because his mother hates him for his appearance. He was a large young man, but he was kind, helpful and gentle.
Kaizu and Amato are brothers. They have a great responsibility. Kaizu has to help Leaf save all realities. Amato is as carefree as a nine year old can. Even with the responsibility on his shoulders.

With the question, Jaehyun is just now realizing that they haven’t even exchanged names yet.
“I’m just a boy,” he replies shyly, a little bashfully; he means to be confident in it, but as soon as it leaves his mouth he knows it sounds silly, childish. He's 25 years old calling himself a boy... it has his ears and cheeks heating up, but he makes direct eye contact to stand by his choice of not sharing his actual name.

“I’m going on a date with…. Beans… at 11 pm… at the Moody Restaurant.” Every subsequent word was harder to push out of his mouth. He felt a bead of sweat drip down the side of his face as he locked eye contact with a flush-cheeked Beans.
He’d just clear this up in a few minutes, or so that’s what he thought. But Beans’s eyes widened, as a slight smile bloomed on his lips.
“You’re too kind, I’ve always wanted to go there,” said Beans, playing along nicely. Seeing the flabbergasted look on Pariston’s face was enough for him, though it was only for a second before his usual expression snapped back. Great, now he could leave and he wouldn’t even need to find out why Pariston was bothering him. Beans played his role nicely….
