As the Herald turned her head to stare at the path between her horse's ears, Varric remembered what Hawke had said to him when she finally came to terms with the fact that he was going to write her story.
“Make me a blood mage or something, that way people don’t hang portraits of me in the chantry.”
From that day on she had smeared red paint across the bridge of her nose. A vulgar expression of her resistance to overly glorified figures. As he looked at the Herald he could see that same resistance, only quieter.

Marian Hawke escaped the Fifth Blight and fled to Kirkwall with her twin Garrett, brother Carver, and her mother. As she works with her brothers to pay off their debt to the mercenaries and hiding her status as a mage from the Templar's she slowly becomes enamored with the Qunari- or more specifically she really loves with those horns and would like to convince one of them to let her touch them ( and maybe do more if she has anything to say about it). Meanwhile, her twin is a complete disaster and seems to have a fascination with the broody elf who recently joined their group.
set in an AU Dragon Age 2 starting from Act 1 and ending at the end of act 3. Next in series will cover the time from the end of the game and the three years before Inquisition.

“Shit,” Varric swears.
Hawke can’t believe it. And yet, it somehow makes perfect sense that the Arishok is squatting in a cave on the coast. How much weirder and more complicated can her life possibly get?
“Well. Guess the Qunari didn’t take him with them after all,” Hawke murmurs quietly. The Arishok doesn’t look up, he simply strides to the ocean where it beats against the rocky shore.
Varric shakes his head and creeps carefully up beside her. As they watch in silence, the Arishok pauses just above the waves. Then, almost in slow motion, the man drops his hands to his pants and begins to tug them downward.
“Avert your virgin eyes, Hawke.” Varric’s voice is thick with laughter, but Hawke refuses to look away from the firm, muscled backside being revealed in all its glory.
“You’re watching.”
“Author’s curiosity,” Varric explains smoothly. “Gotta have all the details when I write your biography.”

--It's harder with Hawke here, somehow. Skyhold—the whole Inquisition, Fade full of Nightmare notwithstanding—isn't Hawke's the way Kirkwall somehow became in Varric's imagination. It wasn't something Varric had realized he'd steeled himself against until he'd stopped, but knowing that doesn't make Varric want Hawke any less. And knowing that doesn't make getting Hawke any less impossible.
Varric's editor demands a new manuscript; Varric delivers. -
