    "I...I can't believe it," she hid the shock in her voice and on her face as they stood in the room.

    Her eyes were fixated on the blue crib in front of her. She never signed up for this; it was never part of the plan.

    “I know!” the curled smile on his face was unsettling, the smile that was keeping a million secrets from her. “A baby, isn’t it great? Someone to carry on my legacy. He’s the luckiest boy in the world,” he sounded sickeningly happy, as if it was perfectly normal to have a baby thrusted into her arms.

    "That he is," she smiled, the most fake sincere smile she could muster.

    Nathaniel was always a little unhinged but this was madness.

    She looked down at the tiny baby in her arms and tugged him closer to her chest.

    Shaun. Said the embroidery on his blanket. Pre-named and pre-made.

    She watched as his mouth opened just a tiny amount and he sighed out a silent yawn, his eyes opened for a split second and the sea of blue hit her. She had green eyes herself and she looked up to see Nathaniel’s hollow brown eyes look lovingly at her.

    Where are your parents?

    Summary

    Deacon finally meets his match, and then some.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    "...I’m also a fan of ‘That’s a nice outfit. It would look better on my floor.’”
    He snorted, “Has that ever actually worked for anyone in the history of time and space?”
    She smiled at him with a cheeky sort of charm, “I dunno, honey. Why don’t you try it and we’ll see?”
    Deacon about choked on his beer and she giggled at him while sipping her drink. He shook his head and was surprised to find he didn’t have to fake the disappointment in his voice, “Can’t. Don’t have my own floor.”
    Nora shrugged at that. “Well, in that case…”, her eyes moved over him slowly. It made him feel like a nervous kid. “That’s an awfully sexy outfit you’re wearing, Andy. I bet it would look better on my floor.”
    Bad idea. Bad idea. Bad idea. “Oh yeah? Where’s this floor at?” Like he didn’t already know.
    She smiled, took his hand and stood. “I’ll show you.”
    (Note: This is my magnum opus revenge story for Bethesda not allowing anyone to romance this sad egg. Buckle up, kids, stuff's about to get dark and dirty.)
    "What do you call the stick with the bowl on the end?" she asks, and Deacon raises an eyebrow.
    "Uh, you lost me, Boss."
    "The thing you eat with. Like a fork or a knife but for soup," Clara says, and she's making the motion as if she's eating cereal while she's speaking, as if using the muscles will help her remember if she ever knew it.
    "A spoon?" Deacon says it almost as more of a question, like he's unsure if that's the answer or not.
    Clara snaps her fingers and grins widely. "Yes! Spoon!"
    **Chapter 19 now posted!!**
    Desdemona is asking him to do the hardest thing he’s done in years, and not for the reason she thinks. It’s not because she’s asking him to risk his life. It’s because she’s asking him to stand still and pretend to live it.
    When Deacon hatches a plan to get the General of the Minutemen to help the Railroad, he doesn't count on it including an assignment to live in the settlement with him. He doesn't count on it waking up ghosts he's been trying to keep buried. He doesn't count on it including a working relationship (and sharing a house) with an asshole mercenary that he can't stand. Worse than that, he doesn't count on actually learning to like the guy.
    (Since Bethesda wouldn't let me romance Deacon, I wrote this instead. Originally, this story started 3 years pre-game, then ended within the game's timeline, but I moved it to 2 years because it worked better for the pacing.)
    Dawn, another vault refugee, has been living in the Commonwealth for a while. A threat forces The Railroad into her life. While initially reserved, she starts to make friends and open up a little about her past, Deacon being the one she tells her secrets to the most.
    Summary
    War. War never changes.
    In the year 2290, a settlement in the northern part of the Commonwealth - Outpost Zimonja - was attacked by raiders. They were after children, and they managed to make off with one young boy by the name of Gary Unwin. Gary was sold progressively farther west and south, until - three years later - he was bought by the slavers of Paradise Falls in the Capital Wasteland.
    By 2305, Zimonja has become a major stop for the Railroad smuggling synths north into New Hampsha and Main. Tensions with the remnants of the Institute are reaching a boiling point, with both sides poised to resume open hostilities.
    Because war. War never changes.
    In the middle of it all, a 25 year-old slave named Eggsy, assumed to be a synth, arrives in Bunker Hill. Now the newly minted agent Gawain, of the Railroad's Kingsman cell, heads to Bunker Hill to find, and hopefully save, this possible lost soul. At the same time, a courser, one of the elite and deadly assassins of the Institute, is sent to retrieve, or eliminate, the synth.
    Summary
    After taking down the Institute with the Minutemen at her back, Amarli Lorenzen has ditched the danger, the drugs, the drinks, and the ladies for a chance to return to her suburban life in Sanctuary Hills. Well… mostly suburban. Her synth son, Shaun, and the tech studio she keeps in her bedroom are all she thinks she needs for the rest of her days in the Commonwealth.
    It isn’t long until danger begins to whisper to her about all the excitement she’s left behind. Feeling displaced once more, Amarli leaves the safety of Sanctuary Hills behind and returns to the brutal reality beyond. Her magnificent discoveries range from an incredibly human-like pre-war robot to a mechanical mastermind who seems hell bent on taking over the Commonwealth.
    Amarli won’t be returning to her suburban life anytime soon – that’s for sure.
    “I told you I was done being your girlfriend for the day “ she finally whispered, quietly catching her breath, but still holding on to him.
    He chuckled and plopped over, stretching over her for the bottle “way to ruin all the fun.”
    While waiting for an informant in Bunker Hill, Whisper grows impatient.
    And when threatened to be exposed, Deacon reacts the only way he knows.
    Summary
    Annie Simeone-Johannes does not like Deacon.
    He's too cocksure of himself, too foolhardy and aloof, and he lies through his teeth 98.7% of the time, and the remaining 1.3% he's trying to impart some great 'lesson of wisdom' on her (the first time he bullshitted her, she believed it - now she’s smart enough to recognize his tells, recognize that at every lie’s center there’s a grain of truth that holds it all together).
    He's too loud, a liar and a sleaze… in short, he's everything Ritchie was when they first met; her a budding actress and him a well known actor-producer combination. A recipe for disaster, more like (at least with Deacon, she knows he’s not fucking her costars in their bed.) She has to remind herself, too often for her to feel truly comfortable, that they are two different people, too different to be the same, and yet -
    Yet still the similarities are chilling.
    Deacon's five-step guide to surviving the Commonwealth Wasteland:
    Step One: Don't, under any circumstances, fall in love with a Vault Dweller named Alice Newton.
    Step Two: Oh, shit. Ohshitohshitohshit. It had to be a crime to have lips that kissable, right?
    Step Three: Definitely a crime. Fucking Christ, he'd never been so glad to be a criminal.
    Step Four: ...what were we talking about again?
    Step Five: Ignore step one; he's full of shit anyway.
    Congratulations! You've survived the Commonwealth Wasteland!
    Summary
    The dog besides Wanderer lowered into a growl, which was never a good sign. And it was an even worse sign whenever he growled looking towards the sky towards the roof of a building, as he was now.
    A sniper. She could deal with that. Provided that she saw them before they saw her. Wanderer ducked behind a building, pulled out Tinker Tom Special, and began combing the top of the building Dogmeat was staring at. The sun was being to rise which meant that after she got rid of this guy, she’d make it back to HQ with enough time for Carrington to wake up and be his normal grumpy instead of his I-just-woke-up pissed.
    Dogmeat growled again as she found the target through her scope. A scavenger, probably. She would’ve thought he was just watching the view until he pulled out a rifle of his own.
    Did she really need to do this? He looks so young, maybe he was just taking out a raider or a stray mutant hound. Better safe than dead, Wander. She could practically hear Deacon’s voice chiding in her head with how many times he had repeated similar lines at her. But still, Wanderer wasn’t used to just killing someone because they might be a threat.
