2 Works in Galatea (Interactive Fiction)
With all the free time as people stare, prod, and ask stupid questions, it's impossible not to think about him. Even though they've told me he's gone, he's never coming back, every time someone says my name it's like I'm hearing him say it for the very first time.
Emily Short's "Galatea" features perhaps the best-written NPC of all time. There are an astounding number of interactions already written, but I think the form also lends itself toward imagining new ones. There are enough fantastical possibilities in the original that I like to think this is in keeping with it.
