Gojo comforts Megumi as he comes to terms with his and Yuji's future, and, reminded of a himself and a certain dark-haired sorcerer, encourages him to tell him how he feels before it's too late. After all, he should know better than anyone.“I don’t know what to do,” Megumi says, pressing the heels of his hands into his eyes so hard that white spots flare behind them. He’s blinded, and shaking, and strangled like something’s squeezing on his windpipe, and all of a sudden there are warm hands over his back, sliding under the dips of his spine. They’re pulling him in, wrapping around him and holding tight, until his face collides with a solid shoulder.
“You don’t have to do anything,” Gojo says, his hand coming to rest on the back of Megumi’s head. “You just have to survive. You have to keep going, even though it hurts.”

Megumi thought something was wrong with him at first, that he couldn't empathize. But he couldn't fully understand grief if he hadn't experienced it firsthand. He couldn't do anything about that.
And then it was a month of knowing Itadori Yuji before he lost him.
When Yuji died, his body had dropped to its knees, face-first into the muddy ground. His heart was on the grass as the rain washed over it. When his life force evaporated from his body and Megumi was left standing, choking back tears, he finally understood loss.

“Megumi, I don’t want me to distract you from your homework. I can leave if you wan—“ Yuji’s eyes went wide as he felt Megumi’s lips on his. Yuji closed his eyes and melted into the kiss, moaning a bit when Megumi wrapped his hands around his waist.
“I told you to stop saying that,” Megumi leaned his head back and looked down at Yuji. “You’re the best distraction I could ask for.”

“So... How long?” Yuuji sat up straight in the bed, still practically drowning in the messy comforter surrounding him as he gazed up adoringly and inquiringly at a stark-naked Megumi, who was leaning ever-so-casually against the edge of the countertop while soundlessly sipping his tea.
“How long, what?” Megumi asked flatly, cocking an eyebrow back at the pink-haired boy.
“How long have you known how you felt about me?”
Megumi’s face crinkled into a reflexive frown, wanting to react as if the question was presumptuous and arrogant, but inevitably he just sighed, knowing he should acknowledge that it was a serious question worthy of a serious answer. He paused and closed his eyes as he began to think back, to remember.
“Hm… I suppose I knew something had really changed in me after I realized you’d actually eaten that first, disgusting finger.”

It was only when Yuji’s lifeless body dropped in front of him, spewing blood on the way down, that he understood what it meant. It was only when he was carrying Yuji’s limp corpse on his back, stepping over his blood, looking at the wretched organ that bled on the ground on the way back that he understood what it meant to lose someone special, someone you cared for deeply.
Megumi handed him off to Gojo, sunk to his knees, and vomited in the grass.
