Ning told him once that he was always dreaming. Ryan has no idea if those dreams include him any more now than back when it'd all gone to shit to begin with.
Seven years later, Ning comes back to New York—

Ning leaves Ryan’s life for good, and Ryan’s fine. Really. He’s got his hands full with the company he started with his best friend.
(Okay, that’s a lie.)
But he’s fine. He’s got friends and family who love him, a job he’s passionate about, and a strained, messy relationship with Chinese culture that keeps him up at night if he thinks about it too hard—but hey, at least it exists! He couldn’t say that seven years ago. What more could he ask for?
Okay, maybe he still works too much, and he’s still single, but he likes his life the way it is. He already has everything he needs. Right?
Then Ning comes back into his life, asking for Ryan’s help in promoting his newest movie, and Ryan’s not so sure anymore.
