Summary
"There a lot of things about Zuko that the servants ignore. He is half-way between skins now. He shed the old one and hasn’t grown into the new one, trapped between worlds and skins and identities. Some days he feels more like Li the war-child refugee than Zuko, the Fire Lord."
Zuko attempts to lead his nation into peace, kicking and screaming in protest. He discovers what it means to survive a war- and a childhood- that no one ever wanted or expected him to.

Summary
It starts like this: Zuko’s head is fucking pounding like it’s the morning after the Sun Festival, except he doesn’t open his eyes to find his friends in various piles around him, as tragically hungover as him. Instead, his eyelashes unstick slowly and painfully, and with the sunlight and the shock of green above him before he snaps his eyes shut again comes a young, mournful voice.
“—we knew each other back then,” Aang is saying, from somewhere high and to Zuko’s left, “do you think we could’ve been friends?”
or,
Zuko stages a coup, finds his soulmates, goes to the past, and discovers that happiness isn’t unattainable— not necessarily in that order. -

Summary
The firehawk landed with the grace of its species, claws pricking Zuko’s arm where it perched, despite the thick fabric of his sleeves.
Maybe, his father had realized Zuko was needed at home and was cutting his search short before it could truly begin, allowing Zuko to return and regain the honor he’d lost in that fateful Agni Kai.
Zuko couldn’t help the hope that welled inside him, as he leaned against the railing and unfurled the scroll with trembling fingers.
It was -
It was a casualty report, with nearly two hundred names listed. Zuko stared down at the page, uncomprehending as he read the artfully penned characters, scanning the paper for something, anything to explain what he was looking at.

he doesn’t know how to say the words that stick to his tongue— the pain is like a poem without flow— like an epic without meter. it’s a wound that won’t clot, and it’s something so much greater. the words that stick used to feel like a trap, but something about it seems freeing now— a little secret that he’ll take to his grave. because he knows that in the end, not matter what, it’s the one thing he’s sure to reach.

Summary
Never mind that he won’t be of age for another year-and-then-some. Never mind that he’s sixteen with bandages still wrapped around his chest and a more intimate knowledge of war than these men will ever have. He wasn’t old enough for his first Agni Kai. He isn’t old enough for the crown. No one batted an eye then, they don’t now. The prayer shawl is a familiar weight on his shoulders.

Summary
When Zuko defeated Azula with Katara’s help they were still in an Agni Kai, and technically, since Katara had the last move to outsmart and defeat powerless and weak Azula there are theories that Katara may have won the Agni Kai.
However, even if the council and Zuko present Katara the opportunity to become the Fire Lord she refuses, as she does not want to settle down just yet, instead she goes back to travelling around the world with Aang, Sokka, Suki and Toph to unify the world. However, there comes a time in Zuko’s reign when legal manners start putting him under pressure.
Thus, he needs to call the ‘legal’ Fire Lord to sign a formal treaty for him to rule the Fire Nation accordingly, and it is very simple, but, if everything went down to signing a simple piece of paper then this couldn’t get to happen, right?Zuko and Katara’ll have to learn cooperation and rules about their kingdom and also helping it to recover while going on a journey where both will have to face insecurities, acceptance from the people and that there are certain emotions that die hard.

Summary
Zuko realizes his destiny much earlier. As in, as soon as he wakes up in the palace after his Agni Kai and is told he is banished. Unfortunately, he's never been a patient one. So he storms right up to Ozai and tells him what he's going to do. And gets locked up for over three years. Then, one day, he's being pulled out and told he's the new Fire Lord.
A "Zuko never meets the Gaang and suddenly becomes Fire Lord after three years of literal torture" AU. In which the Gaang doesn't know what to think of this new Fire Lord who happens to be the missing nephew of Aang's firebending teacher, Iroh is misunderstanding a few things, and, sure, maybe the world hates the Fire Nation, but the Fire Nation LOVES Zuko, and he can work with that.

A list of characters both canon and original for my story 'Fractures' to simply help anyone keep track if they get confused. Updated every so often. Each update updates the status of a character that was already in the story, too.

Summary
It was obvious, the contrast between Prince Zuko and the majority of his family. As one often does a young child, Prince Zuko cried and yelled - not over anything serious, of course, just little things.
Tears running down his face and lower lip wobbling dangerously after falling from a tree branch, one he wasn’t even supposed to be climbing. Shouting as he stormed away from his sister, a mocking laugh following him. Bawling loud enough to draw practically a cohort of concerned palace sentries when he nearly broke his ankle after slipping from his perch on a banister.
Despite all of that, all of the prince’s anger and sadness, his explosive reactions and impatience with himself, Zuko would never take it out on the servants, nor any of the other staff in Caldera.
Or: I couldn't resist putting a Zuko & Palace Staff story in this series. It just wouldn't be right without it.

or; Zuko doesn't waste two years looking for the Avatar, because he is too busy fighting for his people. This changes everything.

“Wait, Zuko! You’re a genius!”
The firebender didn’t even need both eyebrows to show his blatant confusion.
“We can just hold the festival ourselves!”
“Wait, Aang—”
“Just think about it!” Aang said brightly. “It would be a great way to show that the Fire Nation is committed to peace and unity. And it would be nice for everyone to have a chance to just loosen up! It is the five year anniversary after all.”
