Jaeger weighs the drive in his hand. It’s no larger than his thumb. A name and IP address engraved on its body. If it’s glittery fox-head cap were removed it would reveal a jack meant to plug directly into a kid’s brain. There’s more to it, probably, but More or less.
He shudders.
The IP address is the same sort Marcie’s got. This is a student’s. And nobody carries around external drives if they’ve got the money and self-preservation to help it— so a student and a broke one at that.
Jaeger glances back over his shoulder at the street vendor, up the pipe venting oxygen down from the day districts. Rolls gleaming yellow eyes toward the ceiling and sighs. “Fuckin’ fine.”

Summary
This takes place in the same AU as Special Services, but it happens some months after that story. Kuroda passed the law exam and is in his first year apprenticeship at the Tokyo Public Prosecutor’s Office. Kuroda is trying to make a name for himself and takes it upon himself to start investigating a counterfeit money ring and seek the international criminal, Aidan Mahone, who is known for his counterfeiting skills and ties to organized crime. Kuroda is surprised to find Kirishima wherever he turns. The pace of the story might be slower, but I intend to include smut eventually.

This short story takes place in a setting very similar to the original Finder universe, except that Kirishima is a librarian and Kuroda is a law school graduate who is studying to take Japan’s law exam (similar to the bar exam). Kuroda breaks library rules and Kirishima disciplines him. It is exactly what you think it is. After years of reading smut, this is my first attempt at writing it. These tropes are a bit like training wheels for me. I hope some of you can enjoy it anyway.
