Summary
After Allura sacrificed herself to save all of existence, Lance thought that would end their adventuring days. He didn’t know, however, that something much bigger was still going on, a vital piece of information that he and the group had overlooked.
Nobody knew what Quintessence was actually for or how it was made, but Lance finds out the hard way when mysterious beings attack the castle. Lance calls a meeting with the Paladins of Voltron, after 5 years, to help him figure out who they are and why they are showing up now.

She whipped around to face Pidge once again, flicking her tail in a single swift motion, grabbing her by the wrists. The green paladin inhaled sharply as she was pulled forward in a fast, jarring movement. She barely had a moment to register what had happened before a firm hand grabbed her neck and shouts exploded from the other paladins.

Everyone was sick of their constant bickering, especially Keith's boyfriend, the teacher's pet Shiro, and Lance's boyfriend, the bad biker boy, Lotor. His hair was done in a small high ponytail and Lance hated how much it suited his face. It should’ve looked absolutely ridiculous when his goddamn mullet wasn’t that long, however Lance was many things, but not a liar. The fucker could pass off as a model for a magazine even at this moment.
Although, his eyes were looking different. Not that Lance has had many opportunities to observe, of course, but he was sure they were purple blue most of the time. Yet today they were taking a different color, like a dark silver, reminding him of gray diamonds.
The ones they usually put in the engagement rings; Lance’s brain unhelpfully reminded him.
“Stop staring,” Keith snapped irritatingly and kicked him lightly on the shoulder with his foot.

Two years ago Lance’s band was on the verge of their first stadium tour. After years of pining, he and Allura were finally in a relationship, and everything was going his way. He had his band, his girl, and his future carved out in front of him.
The time since has been filled with challenges for The Legendary Defenders. But through it all, the band held together, and for that, Lance is grateful.
On the eve of their first European tour, Lance does something that throws everything off balance. Once on the road, everybody is exploring new interests and it feels like they are all going in different directions. Somehow even Keith is switching things up, developing emotional literacy, through something called “The Diva Project."
Lance is scrambling to keep it together, he needs his band, his team. Anxious from all the changes, he decides it is best not to act on his new (or not so new) feelings for his friend and lead guitarist. Especially since it is clear that Keith is taking a step back.

“Are you going to kill this one, or shall I do it?” Lance gestured at the monk with his sword.
“No,” Keith said, crouching down to look at the man more closely. Those steely gray eyes flicked over to him, surprised and cautious, but also curious. Keith smiled, feeling the war paint and drying blood on his face crinkle under the movement. “I’m keeping this one. Alive. I have a feeling he will be very useful.”
The monk’s eyes widened with shock. Keith called for a rope, and when a length was tossed to him, he bound the man’s hands in front of him.
“What is your name?” He asked, curious.
“I’m… I am called Shiro,” the man replied. He was apparently wise enough to not resist the ropes, with several armed warriors standing around him with weapons still drawn and bloody.
“Shiro.” Keith tried out the unfamiliar sounds on his tongue. He liked it. “I am Keith.”
(History channel "Vikings" inspired AU, where Shiro is a monk in Northumbria in 793 AD when the Galran Vikings kick off their age of exploration)
