In which I meta-ed and spent an unholy amount of words doing some asos/affc text analysis to break down the Jaime/Brienne relationship and bring up all the actual textual reasons of why I think they're book-canon headed for romance, of how they relate to each other and how their journeys intersect and parallel each other.

    Summary

Buffy in Crush - wonders what it is she could have done to turn Spike on or lead him on? I didn't do anything she says. Except maybe beat him up a few times. Apparently Buffy has had a temporary case of amensia and has forgotten that just two episodes ago in Checkpoint, took Dawn and Joyce to Spike's and requested that he protect them with his life. Telling him that he was the only one strong enough that she trusted to protect her family. So, wait, you take the two people you care the most about in all the world to Spike, don't pay him, and ask him to protect them?? Then, the very next episode - when Dawn disappears - you ask Spike, again, to help you find her. Not only do you ask him - you have him patrol with you to do it. You don't have him go with Xander or Giles - which would make more sense. And...you don't think this is leading him on? Honey! Wake up!! Didn't you learn anything dating Angel and Riley???

I'd say it was unintentional or a mistake in the writing, but first of all, the same writer wrote both episodes - David Fury. Also, it does work in regards to Spike's motivation. So I think it is deliberate. It just doesn't work regarding everyone else. So why? What were they going for here?

    Summary

Season 5 is an interesting counterpoint to early seasons - in that it is in this season that Buffy starts to take on a new role - the role of provider and protector. She never really does the nuturing thing well, that role, oddly falls to Xander, and to a degree Willow and Tara. But mostly Xander and Tara. Spike to a degree takes it on in later episodes, but not completely, any more than Willow does - in some respects Willow and Spike remain in the protector role. Season 5, like the seasons before it also examines the relationships between chaos and order, male and female (gender politics), how we perceive reality and our perception of family.

    Summary

Part IV of the in-depth Spike/Willow character study that goes up through most of S6. This does not include the end of S6 or S7.

It deals with the psychological themes of rejection as seen through these characters and with allusions to other texts for comparison purposes.

Words can crucify us. Any one who has posted an essay, a fanfic or just a post on the internet knows this to be true. At least on the internet we can hide behind pseudonyms. No one knows what we look like. Anyway, most of us remain unknown. Our identities hidden behind a fake name. But the fake name doesn’t protect us from pain. Our words are our babies; we are inextricably attached to them. So when someone cruelly slashes them, it feels as if they are slashing at us. Their words can’t hurt us.Wrong. They do hurt. But that’s not what interests me. Of course being rejected hurts. Is there anyone here who can honestly tell me it doesn’t? And we get rejected all the time. Just walking outside and interacting with the world can result in rejection. It’s how we choose to deal with this rejection that is interesting. The possibilities are endless.

    Summary

This essay was written and posted on the fan boards before the episode Season 6 Buffy the Vampire Slayer Episode - As You Were. At that time, we did not know if he was going to get a soul. The spoiler was that he was getting his chip removed. It predates Seeing Red and everything that came after that. So, if you haven't seen anything past As You Were, there are no spoilers past that point. This essay was in response to speculation that they would turn the character back to his evil self. I argued at the time that this was not the direction they were planning on taking the character, that if anything he was on a path towards redemption. I used literary analysis to prove my point.

It is also comparison to the literary work "A Clockwork Orange", both film and book versions.

    Summary

I am murdered by my own hands, my own weapons because, while I seek to use them on others, only end-up injuring myself instead. It is unfortunate and yet fortunate I lack untouchable power named talent that demigods possess, for I would surely not be able to crawl out after these ruthless attacks. Then again, maybe my talent is having no talent at all, therefore unable to touch anyone’s life, unable to evolve, to grow from a weed to a flower, stuck in my original form, a dead leaf halfheartedly grasping onto an elm’s branch, wanting to believe I am worthy and a vital piece of its beauty.

Ben didn't bother grabbing a menu because he knew it by heart, and he sat down at a table in the far back that was the furthest away from where everyone else in the café was as possible. He'd just gotten his essays out of his bag and set them on the table when someone approached it, and Ben looked up to see the waitress standing there.

    She was absolutely beautiful.

or: Ben's a professor at the university and he's gone to the café closest to his apartment to get some dinner and grade some essays. When he gets there, it's Rey's first day on the job, and her first table happens to be Ben's.

"Years later, Annette threw herself into songwriting, and with the support and encouragement of her husband, she produced melodies that remained popular for generations. The lyrics became distorted over time, however, and the original meaning of the music was lost."

Or; an exploration of Felix and Annette's canon ending, AKA The Library Song through five centuries. A historical speculative work. Felix/Annette, waaaaaay post-canon and then just a little bit.

It all started with a silly conversation about the genes of ahoges in a discord server, when I suddenly came up with the exclamation - ahoges aren't genetic, they're mutations! So, with the help of whatever I caught from my bio class and my fellow Kira, we wrote this essay-thing that is... just a tad bit too crack-y to be professional. Just a little, though.
