The crossover that nobody asked for! XD

After Lee (Utopia) gets shot in Wilson Wilson's fallout shelter, he manages to climb partway up the shelter's ladder, presumably to exit. Through accidentally finding a portal, he is transported back in time and ends up on HMS Erebus in 1847. Fortunately, Harry D. S. Goodsir (The Terror), who happens to look identical to Lee, is available to give him immediate medical attention. During Lee's two months of convalescence on HMS Erebus, an unlikely friendship of sorts is forged, with each man learning more about himself from having met the other.

    Summary

Night time was spy time; in darkness the key to every code seemed closer at hand. If only one could just step around the next corner before the harsh light of mundane day returned and the shabbiness of the sorry, striving world was again laid brightly bare, perhaps one could find the truth.

London, 1964: the height of the Cold War. MI6 officer Francis Crozier is assigned to handle a new agent.

James woke up in a hospital bed. He remembered the throbbing pain getting sharper and sharper until it felt like an iron claw clenched around his entire chest. A pain so intense he couldn’t even draw breath. He remembered Francis touching his throat with something like panic in his sky-blue eyes.

    Summary

But the funniest thing about it was how once you smelled it, its scent lingered in the nostrils, and one kept inhaling hungrily almost as though to chase it down as it was drawn further into one’s system. One felt slightly euphoric, but clear-headed. Then a day later, its secondary effects kicked in and those—Goodsir had never seen the like. Priapism, initially, then a crawling fever and... unseemly urges. That was the primary symptom. For the first two days, the ships had nearly fallen apart with a lack of discipline and routine.

Even the captains took to Fitzjames’ berth together and did not emerge for some six hours, Fitzjames’ hair uncharacteristically mussed and Crozier’s lips swollen from hard use, his face flushed—but they were both clear-eyed, and were able to authoritatively issue the following edict: that, in order to neutralize what was fundamentally a medical threat, the ships’ doctors would treat the afflicted with the same straightforward efficiency with which women were sometimes treated for hysteria.

    Summary

“What on Earth is he doing?” Stanley asked.

“It seems he may have, ah... imprinted on me, sir,” said Goodsir sheepishly. Gore was now nuzzling at Goodsir’s neck and ear, his golden hair brushing against Goodsir’s whiskers. He smelled not of death but not of life either; more than anything he smelled of the clean sharp air of King William Land, a scent unknown to Goodsir until just this week past.

    Summary

The fate of the expedition reimagined – in glimpses over the years stuck in the Arctic and a bit beyond, through Goodsir's and Collins' viewpoints. I wanted to explore what could perhaps have been, if small changes to the story were made along the way, if certain characters spoke more or made slightly different choices etc.

This focuses on the relationship between Goodsir and Collins, but it also touches on and explores their relationships with the other characters.

    Summary

But for a moment the brain’s full complexity is unfurled before him—like Bernini’s St. Theresa, this vision of the brain’s thousand manifestations, transfigurations, iterations pours down around him like shafts of gold: a cathedral, a pudding, a geode hatched open. A chorale of light, of impulse, of blueprints and ecstasies. The holy symmetry of the lobes, their earthen ugliness; by the will of the great animator a thousand cathedrals erected and puddings confected—metaphor is inconsequential in the blinding light of this revelation. Metaphor is language: this transcends.

But it only lasts a moment. He is used to it by now, these—what else can he call them but visions? It is like his mind’s eye is momentarily deluged with a sight not his own, and his intellect (which he recognizes with conditioned humility is not insubstantial) is left to sort it out. When he was a child he tried to share it with others, he discovered that he not only lacked the language but that others did not experience the same. A capital imagination, his mother had beamed to a friend once. Unnatural, the woman had retorted darkly. He was eight then and never spoke of it again.

    Summary

In 2245, two Constitution-class Federation starships left Earth in an attempt to explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, and boldly go where no man has gone before. They were the most technologically advanced ships of their day.

They were last seen by Tellerite merchants on the edge of Federation space, awaiting good conditions to enter warp six.

    Both ships then vanished.
