    Summary

Rosamund Kane, Lady Kentisbury, returns to Vairy Castle, after Rosemary Marchwood is crowned as Hamlet Club Queen. She takes a guest with her, Mary Devine, and a new chapter opens in Mary's life. Characters belong to Elsie J. Oxenham, Dorita Fairlie Bruce, Elizabeth Goudge and E.J. Haverfield. I admire all these writers and it has been a dream for a long time to combine their contemporaneous characters in a coherent narrative.
I acknowledge the work of L. Benson, which also explores the crossover between the characters of Oxenham and Bruce, both of whose Scottish stories were set in the lochs west of Glasgow. L. Benson's story "Joy's Next Adventure" is a suspenseful and fascinating combination of the Marchwood, Gilmour and Gordon families. My work was independently developed, and is the culmination of thoughts about this type of crossover, which started in 2007. My retirement from full time work in 2018 made the writing of this and my others stories possible.

    Summary

It is September 1939, and war is about to be declared. How will it affect the families from the Abbey? In the tradition of L.M. Montgomery's "Rilla of Ingleside", this story follows the families through the dark days of World War II. The majority of characters belong to Elsie. J. Oxenham, and I owe her and her other interpreters a debt of gratitude for a lifetime of happy reading. There is a major character death, randomly chosen. The action takes place after my own sequel to "Two Queens at the Abbey", titled "The Garnet Links", but can be read independently.

I have also referred to characters from the works of Dorita Fairlie Bruce, particularly her Dimsie series, which I admire greatly. In common with other writers, such as L. Benson, I believe this crossover is entirely plausible due to both Bruce and Oxenham setting their Scottish stories on the lochs west of Glasgow. I acknowledge the work of L. Benson in her very fine story, "Joy's Next Adventure", which brings together the Marchwood, Gilmour and Gordon families. My work was independently developed, as a result of thoughts about this crossover, which I began in 2007. My retirement from full time work in 2018 made the writing of it possible.
