i just had this idea rolling around my head of dean accidentally calling cas sweetheart in bed and cas running with it. this is the aftermath of cas calling dean 'beloved' in public. (takes place in a really nebulous timeline, i imagine it just being "after everything" whenever that is for you.)

Summary
Dean's doing fine. He's always late for work, he's not taking care of himself, and he isn't planning on changing that - but seriously, he's fine. Except for one thing: someone's brought back the chili pepper rating system for all of the professors on campus, and Dean isn't rated the hottest. It's Castiel Novak, the guy who's always walking around in terrible sweater vests, who's got the full ten chilis - and that's something Dean does plan to change.

Summary
“I didn’t know it was possible to be depressed in Heaven.” Ellen murmured quietly, her eyes fixed on the two figures leaning on the car outside. Her gaze rested on their stances, their positioning, the space that always lingered around them.
The space that was supposed to be filled by a dark haired, blue eyed angel.
“Yeah, well,” Jo replied, gazing at the same thing, “since when have the Winchesters paid attention to what was possible?”

Summary
The Trompowsky Attack is an unusual Queen's Pawn Opening in chess that runs the risk of sacrificing two bishops. But play them as a team, and you just might win the game.
After a series of serendipitous encounters, Castiel befriends local party-boy Dean Winchester. They play chess.
(This came about for three reasons. Firstly, I watched Queen's Gambit and so should you. Secondly, November 5, 2020 and November 25, 2020. Thirdly, a story told to me from my Bulgarian family friend.)

Summary
This wasn’t Dean’s first rodeo with death, not nearly, but there was always something that saved him those other times. Some important matters required his assistance or some Big Time Celestial Being had a penchant for him. But this time, God wasn’t there to resurrect him for his little story, and Heaven was in shambles, so neither of them would, or could, give half a shit. Even Jack, who was the new God, had pledged to be hands-off. Dean knew there was probably no saving him this time.

Summary
“When I requested a — you know. ‘Companion.’ I was just being selfish,” Dean says. “So fucking selfish that I didn’t even think about what it would be like for you.”
“Don’t worry,” Cas says, almost as if from outside himself. “It was either you or someone else. Perhaps someone worse.”
“It’s a big deal to my dad for me to get mated. He’s always trying to match me with some asshole or another, and I — I can’t, Cas.” He drops his head into his hands, rubbing furiously at his eyes. “I’m fucked up, I guess, because I just — I can’t be a mate to someone, not for real. I can’t — consummate, or whatever.”

Summary
Dean’s a Sentinel who is perfectly fine not having a Guide, no matter what Sam says. But when he meets Sam’s friend Castiel, he discovers not only a compatible Guide but a friend he’s desperate to keep.
Dean needs to make it through his Ph.D. in one piece, and that means keeping a lid on his Sentinel abilities that threaten to run wild unless he keeps them under control. Dean’s methods of control are dubious at best, but Castiel is compelled to use his own skills as a Guide to help Dean deal with his abilities, even if Dean doesn’t think he deserves the help.
