Summary
Provided here is the final exchange of letters between Copenhagen and Marengo. The real final exchange, not the tear-jerky final episode that the writers of the radio show Warhorses of Letters decided to go with.
As you know, WoL is RHF (Real Horse Fiction) and the show creators decided, for whatever their angst-inducing reasons, to write a very sad final fictional chapter. However, I am very fortunate in being privy to the true letters, having serendipitously found them in a nosebag shoved in the cracks of a hayloft of a barn being torn down for a nearby wetlands restoration project. These letters I share here.
My only guess is that the show creators thought this display of rational mature straightforward clearing up of misunderstandings was not dramatic enough for their purposes, and devised a melancholic heart-rending epic of their own, rather than providing the simple unadorned truth, which is as informative, light-hearted, and amusing as the rest of the series, but may not have won them any awards.
We can but hope.

Summary
The most unlikely men (and horses) find companionship unlooked-for that yet grips the heart and molds their futures as they pull in harness together.
Also, Diefenbaker (who lived two centuries before the Diefenbaker featured in due South, but is otherwise indistinguishable from that half-wolf) would, of course, engage in correspondence with the more intelligent and interesting of horses of his acquaintance.
