Julie Molina expected many things on her impromptu road trip to Texas. She expected Flynn to be confused but ultimately supportive; she expected to relax and gain a new perspective; and she expected (or at least hoped) to rediscover the music she’d lost over the past year. What she did not expect was to be bunking with cranky rancher Luke Patterson, or the mysterious (and quite possibly magical) karaoke bar that would lead them on an adventure full of new friends, dangerous enemies, fun music, and a whole lot of love.

The media is always asking Luke why he doesn't date and he's always just said he's 'waiting' and left it at that but the truth is he's waiting for someone who likes him for him and not his money or his fame or any of that crap. He's getting more and more disillusioned and hopeless as his fame grows because how is he supposed to find someone who looks at him and sees Luke, dorky music nerd, not Luke Patterson, frontman of a major band. Finding someone who sees him for him, not his fame at his own concert was unexpected but greatly appreciated.

Today has been rough, and it’s not even noon yet. Nick’s been fighting off a migraine since dinner last night. He had a nightmare that he doesn’t even remember, but it set off the shiver-spacey feeling Carlos Molina good-naturedly dubbed his “ghost tinglies” that makes it impossible for Nick to get warm for a good thirty-six hours. He forgot the word for blender at breakfast this morning, and his dads got so worried about him he forgot how to speak at all.
He just wanted to hide out in his bed under a weighted blanket and try again tomorrow, but routines are good for him, and he couldn’t stand the idea of Britney looking at him all disappointed. So here he is, on the Wilsons’ front porch, desperately hugging one of Willie’s sweatshirts around him and wishing he could still stomach wearing his letterman jacket.
Carrie opens the door, which makes Nick huff out a little sigh of relief, because he doesn’t think he could handle talking to her dad right now. She looks him up and down, and up again, and says, voice all icy-still like it gets when she’s trying to be casual, “Quiet day?”

This is essentially Reggie's perspective of my other fic 'Finally Free.' It was inspired in part by the idea that Ray low-key adopted Reggie into his family, which will be emphasized later on in the story. You might be able to read this independently of 'Finally Free,' but I definitely recommend reading the other first.
