Shouto didn't expect to ever have a friendly conversation with someone with the last name of Bakugou, much less two of them.The hero partner track turns out people trained by a branch of the HPSC and hero track 3rd years and heroes can purchase their 5yr contracts to work with them professionally.
Contracts can have additional conditions like marriage. Getting into the hero partner track, however, requires one's parents to turn one over to the HPSC. Izuku and Hitoshi are a codependent hero partner duo with a dual marriage contract condition.
Katsuki is a 3rd year hero student with a weakness for Hitoshi's face and an inability to allow Izuku's care to be turned over to someone else. Shouto is confused by these new, friendly Bakugous and Mei just wants to make their support items rock (i.e. explode). They’ve been close for a while now, really close, and friends don’t intentionally hurt friends. Friends don’t feel that way for friends and also agree to fuck them with the voice of the man they’ve been in love with for who knows how long. Deciding that he doesn't need them anymore, he tosses them in the back of his bedside table's top drawer, thinking he'll forget about them. After a while, he realizes that, no, he is not okay and believes that everyone is only friends to pity him. That his two boyfriends (one that mocked him and his hard work in the Sports Festival and the other that teased him for his quirklessness when they were in primary school) are only with him so they can mock him behind his back.
Paranoid that people will drop him like the other shoe he's mentally preparing for, he makes up his mind that ending things would be better than waiting for others to hurt him.

Soul bonds are weird, that's what Izuku knows. There are four types; soulmates, parental, Platonic, and sibling. Most kids pop out with their parents' bond wrapped around their wrists to their elbows. The two colors twist around each other, making intricate designs.
For parents, their children’s designs go on the left arm. Different colors combine and make shapes; some parents have the designs spell the child's name out.
So when Izuku was born with black and gray twinning up to his elbow, his parents were sad. Their minds went to adoption as they might die in the future. So they spent every day trying to soak up their son's affection. Izuku’s third birthday hit and they were confused on why nothing had happened. They watched as an orange explosion materialized on Izuku’s arm, just as a green cat materialized on Bakugo Katsuki’s arm.
