Wicked Boys by Lynds

Tina and Graves rescue a teenage boy from his abusive mother and quickly learn he's not just a no-maj. Knowing they'd lose their jobs for attacking his mother, but unwilling to let MACUSA experiment on Credence, they keep him hidden until they meet Newt, who may be able to help.
Credence has never had so many people who care for him. People willing to put their jobs on the line just to keep him safe, people who want to teach him magic and tell him he doesn't deserve the constant beatings. But his crush on Mr Graves can only end badly, so he agrees to go to England with Newt, Queenie and Jacob, and start school at Hogwarts if they can get that obscurus out.
Harry's starting his fifth year under the hateful eye of Dolores Umbridge. But the new Gryffindor in his year needs looking after, and Harry's good at that. He and Credence quickly find out they've got a whole lot in common.

Jacob's first meeting with Newt is more alarming and ultimately life-altering. He watches, dumbstruck, as a crowd of witch-haters demonstrate their own sense of justice. (Genfic)

Newt Scamander was a bit liberal with magic shows, but to be fair his darlin' Niffler was in danger. A mob and an attempted lynching happened and golden-hearted Jacob was left fighting to keep the man he has claimed his brother alive. Slowly but surely he discovered and embraced magic and Newt -- previously only known as the pseudonym Jacob gave him, 'Claude' -- himself. Unfortunately, it looks like it has been abandoned.
But it's fantastic. I'm hoping to someday finish this fanfic I'm writing that's heavily inspired by this. All the No-Maj healing seems to be historically accurate, as far as I'm concerned. Some characters, like Tina, were only mentioned in passing, and others, like Queenie, haven't appeared at all. Grindelgraves plays an important role, though, trust me.
PS: Canon divergence: The Niffler got caught when he pilfered in front of Steen National Bank, where Mary Lou was rallying.
