Summary
It's been three months since Harvey Dent killed Sal Maroni and caused a breakout from Arkham Penitentiary. Now, Harvey is Gotham's newest vigilante and Bruce has become desperate to save him from himself. Meanwhile, the power vacuum left behind by Falcone's retirement and Maroni's death has to be filled somehow, and Gotham's remaining mob bosses are all trying to tip the balance of power in their favour. An old war between two criminals threatens to reignite and take the city with it, and while all this and more unfolds, clandestine forces manipulate events behind the scenes and a conspiracy begins to reveal itself.

She has to swallow the emotions that rise in her throat, has to close her eyes tight against the sight in front of them. Bruce, Batman, dead. Reaching out for the spot the police think Jason was last in before he... disappeared. “Don’t worry about that right now, ‘Wing.” Despite her years working as Batgirl, comforting words, ones she’s said a million times, stick in her throat.
It’ll be okay, but it doesn’t feel like it. I’m sorry, but that’s not enough. Jason will be okay, but god only knows where he is, what happened to him, and if he’s actually okay or not. I’ll tell Tim so you don’t have to, but that’s the last thing she wants to do. You’ll make it through this, but she’s not sure he will.

At first, I thought it was a joke. Then we fought. Then I accused them of trying to get me killed. I wasn’t a tiny blonde with big blue eyes, I wasn’t afraid of that particular ending, but enough of the staff had ended up bloody after an exchange with the clown that I wasn’t looking to add myself to their line up. Not me. Find some idiot hoping to make a break through. That was when the warden explained a few things to me. Left a nasty taste in my mouth, that conversation. It had the effect he wanted, though. I’m towing the line, falling in, and prepping for my first session with a man that has caused more death and destruction in his life than I have the capacity to envision. Fantastic.
