An alternate take on history in which John Laurens does not die on the 27th of August, 1782.

Alexander Hamilton, a young "bachelor" living in New York City, invites his dearest friend, John Laurens, to live with him after the war is won. They study law at King's College together and become avid members of congress to continue fighting the good fight for America.
When John holds such sinful secrets regarding his ongoing affair with another man, he mustn't allow himself to feel too comfortable as his lingering responsibility of marriage and fatherhood looms over his head akin to oncoming storm clouds.
On John Laurens' 28th birthday, his vision for the future changes immensely when he discovers he is expected to raise his daughter, Frances Eleanor Laurens, all by himself, and he wonders whether this be divine punishment or a miraculous blessing from providence.

Lady Adrienne Fairfax had never gotten to know her betrothed. Lawrence Washington was a man twice her age who was arranged to marry her eldest sister, Anna. However, after Anna’s passing, she found herself being the only one who could have fulfilled the marriage contract, as she had none of her own. Anna died when Adrienne was 3. And by the time she reached 13, Lawrence was sent off to fight a war for King and Country. After that, he fell prey to the same illness that took Anna and died not long after. Her family considered this as a sign.
Adrienne had always been stupidly ambitious, and she intended to use his naive attachment to her benefit. Now, she was not a bad person, but she frankly had goals to reach. Goals that she’d never achieve if she did not jump at all opportunities to achieve them. Unfortunately, this godforsaken winter encampment was a sacrifice she must make to maintain her influence over the over-glorified Commander-in-Chief.

Alexander knows he loves Laurens. He also knows that he is straight and only has a platonic relationship with Laurens. He does not think about the taste of Laurens’ lips, the soft curls of his hair framing his honey-drop freckles, the curve and snap of the muscles under his skin, or the region under his breeches he wouldn’t dare say even under the cover of his thoughts.
He loves John Laurens, but not like that, ya know? I mean, come on, there’s no way he’s gay in a time where that could get you killed, where he’s a public political figure, where he’s a proud American soldier, where he could die any second (thanks to the time period and his mouth), or where he’s married to Elizabeth Schuyler.
So, shut up, okay. It’s not gonna happen. Ever.

George glanced towards the driver, hesitating, before placing a hand on the Frenchman's shoulder. “Gilbert,” he corrected himself, and this time the man did look to him, dark eyes meeting his own. “Tonight. After these votes are certified,” George conceded quietly. “We can talk then about it.”
Gilbert’s shoulders untensed beneath George’s hand, even if only slightly. “As you wish.”
He pulled his hand back and returned to looking outside the window. Try as he might, the only thing he could focus on for the rest of the drive was the feeling of the mans shoulder beneath his palm, and the dreadful pit in his stomach as he thought of the conversation they would be having.
